The Chargers scored a TD with 1:11 left in the half and the Steelers wanted them to challenge the call. The ref at the San Diego/Pitt game:

"The replay equipment malfunctioned, by rule we had to stand there for two minutes. The ruling on the field stands. Touchdown"

That's one of the funniest things I've heard during a game. His tone was pretty funny too. It's like "eh, we tried. Touchdown!"

Oh well...I'm easily amused right now

I didn't get to see the play.. Should it have been challenged/overturned? I don't think it would have mattered for the outcome anyways.

It was close and certainly reviewable, but i think it would have stood regardless.

What happened was that there was a pretty long delay and then he gave that explanation.

I wish by rule I had to stand around doing nothing...

umm the Steelers did not want to challenge it, by rules of football all reviews within the 2 minute warning are called by the review offical in the booth, NOT on the field. Just wanted to clear that up, but yes funny call.

From what I heard, machine malfunction happened before but the ref never said anything like that. :P Good thing the Chargers won so I could only finish 2nd or 1st. I would win more if I finish first though.

Hilarious. :heh: I'd hate to be the ref who had to say that to the stadium and the world. "By rule we had to stand there for two minutes..." Hah!

Came in 2nd and won $50 instead of 1st place price ($150).
