View Full Version : Best time to visit Italy
So, I'm trying to plan a trip to Italy next year but wasn't sure when the best time of year would be. Can anybody give some insight on the best time of year to go.
I am thinking of making my Rome my primary destination since it's pretty centrally located and then branching out into the outlying cities via train.

:) I want to go to Italy next year for our vacation too! One of my friends went, and her pictures were just amazing!

I am taking a month off in '08 to go to Italy. I cannot wait. :)
I would say May or early June. I hear it gets pretty hot and stanky there in July and Aug.

I like spring - late Feb, early March. Might be a little rainy, but might not be. No crowds, no pushing your way through tourists, easy to find big train spaces, and beautiful scenery, especially in Cinque Terra (yeah, it really does look like the pictures. Exactly like the pictures) and Umbria.

I'd say September is the best month to go - it's right after tourist season ends but the weather is still very nice.
Ahh Italy, how I love thee :)

I agree with Lolita. September is the best time to visit Italy. Happy Travels! Ciao!

Yeah, May was good weather and tourist wise. June and July weather is pretty damn hot and stinking nasty. Locals told me September was pretty darn good as well. Contact me if you want a phrase book and this year's Rick Steve's Rome.
