My system is much slower than it should be. I've had these problems ever since I got the computer more than a year ago, but I never wanted to see how bad off I was, I guess. Anyway, I just did ran some becnhmarks and the results were pretty disgusting. My CPU/Memory benchmarks were comparable to a PII-200. They were even worse in some specific areas.
I'm running windows2000 on an Athlon 650, FIC SD11 motherboard, with 256 pc100 sdram, Asustek 6800 geforce ddr video card, IBM deskstar hard drives and a Pioneer DVD-104.
Does anyone have any idea on what/where the potential problems are? My main problems are that DVD/DivX playback is horrible, and it takes forever to load most games. Any help would be appreciated.

Just some ideas: When was the last time you defraged the drive(s), have you made sure that the hardware is all functional with a hardware troubleshooting program, Possible update bios?
I have this cpu and MB with the same amount of ram, on win2000 and I have no problems loading anything.

Well, I just installed Windows 2000, because I was have driver issues in windows98. Not to mention that I couldn't copy/paste/move files and a bunch of other stuff.
Do you have any suggestions on a good troubleshooting program?
Thanks

I have a program that works good for hardware called troubleshooter. Its works pretty good for testing all aspects of hardware. Have you gotten the lastest drivers for win 2000 for your video card? Are they beta?

I think I have the latest drivers. I'll have to check again. I was lazy and just the Microsoft update thing for my drivers.
Where can I get troubleshooter?

Okay, after getting my daily 3 hours of sleep, I read what I posted, winced, and I thought I'd try this again.
I think I have the latest drivers installed. I'll have to check again; I was lazy and just used the automatic driver update from the Microsoft website. I usually find and install the drivers manually, so I have no idea how well the Microsoft update thing works.

You'll have to copy it to a floppy and boot to it. Works great.
