Ok- it is only one buffalo. My brother got tickets to the University of Colorado football game while I was back home. I used to go to the games as a kid for a couple of bucks and also later sold newspapers outside to get in as well as ushered and sold concessions to watch the games and I eventually graduated from CU so it was a big deal for me to see another game. We are again "rebuilding" after a couple of scandals under our new coach Dan Hawkins who brought Boise State to prominance. Fortunately, Colorado was able to beat Texas Tech and do it in fine fashion- allowing just a pair of field goals and committing zero penalties. The bad news is that this was the first game we won- including losing the home opener to AA school Montana State (who?). They have been steadily improving (we had no quarterbacks with any experience) and have a pretty solid defense so we should still win a couple more before the season is over. We still have a ways to go if we want to win another National Championship.
Anyhow, the University of Colorado mascot is the buffalo and we have had a live buffalo that leads the team onto the field at the start of home games since 1966. The original buffalo was named "Ralph" but it was later learned that he was a she so it was changed to Ralphie. The current bison is Ralphie IV. It is an impressive sight to hear the band strike up the school song, the crowd starts to roar, and Ralphie charges out of her pen to lead the team onto the field while her handlers try to keep up with her. Oh, yeah, we do have one of those mascots in the stupid costumes too. His name is Chip. Buffalo Chip.
