View Full Version : SS! Dawn power dissolver took the paint off my stove!

I have been using this crap for about a year! Never had an issue with it before.

Was cleaning the stovetop, following the directions and the crap took the paint off the stove!

Now, the stove doesn't belong to me, it belongs to base housing. How can I fix it because this stove is FAR from the one I want to buy.

Try complaining to the company that is behind Dawn. I know of a similar situation (except that the product was notbeing used according to directions) when someone damaged their kitchen cabinets and ended up getting money from the company.

Of course, the directions probably include the "...try first in an inconspicuous place...." disclaimer.

It does have that disclaimer, but after using it for a year? Nothing happening for a year?

I have to question long term use, build up, chemicals that might have stayed on the finish over the past year and cross contamination.

It's pretty tough to take the paint off a stove, especially when stoves are meant to get dirty and users are supposed to clean them. Doesn't make sense that normal dish detergent would rip the paint right off. Seems a bit sketchy to me.

Was the stove brand new when you moved in?

The stove was not new when I moved in. But it's not that old either. And if it was the paint, wouldn't it have taken it off within the first few uses? Not after weekly use for almost a year?

I wrote back again, it wasn't the hood, it wasn't the lettering, it was the paint on the stove.

The back of the bottle states "Painted surfaces, particularly metal, vary in quality. If in doubt, test on a small hidden area." Well, after a year and NOTHING coming off paintwise, wouldn't you think that the paint should have been fine?

That sucks! I'd try calling someone at P&G before giving up or settling for a measly coupon for more of the stuff that caused the problem.

The good news is that the problem is fixable. Most appliance stores (and Home Depot) carry appliance touch-up paint. A little bit of light sanding and an application of the touch-up paint and it should be good enough to pass muster when you vacate your base housing.

Send them a picture of the damage. That often gets the point across better than an e-mail which (obviously) they don't read very carefully.

At least the washer and dryer belong to me and I am wanting to buy new ones next year :shifty:

Sorry Chrissy, but looks like you just caught a raw deal here. I doubt you get much satisfaction from P&G.

Most definitely!! It was just a matter of time no matter what would have been used. It is rusting from behind and will spread.
I will bet that other homes in your development have the same problem. (I am assuming the stoves are the same)

Try sending the photos to both P&G and Frigidaire. Maybe one of them will cough up to repair the paint.

Is it possible the stove is rusting from the inside, loosening the paint to the point where it could come off?
