I just built a PCIe system.
Completed yesterday when my Radeon X1950 Pro arrived.
Seems to be super good as far as I can tell.
The system boots in about half the time my old system did.
I went from a A64-3500 to a X2-4800 cpu, so I guess it should be that way.
I did not feel that I would ever build a new system.
The prices of components have become much more reasonable in the past few weeks.
My processor was about $250, the video card was $270 and just my luck my son-n-law gave me an old dell Demension 3000 system. It will not boot. But the thing had 2x1gb sticks of Corsair XMS PC3200 memory in it. I verified that that memory was compatable with my DFI MB, it was so I am running that memory right now. Like the song says "I FEEL GOOD"

Congrats on the new rig! Seems to be fewer posts here about things like that than there used to be. That was what brought me here initially was help building my first system. You should be good for a while now! Mine is starting to age, but I intend to hold out a while longer.
Athlon XP2400+
Asus A7N8X
Corsair XMS PC 3200 1GB
WD 80 GB hdd
WD 300GB hdd
Radeon X800XL vid card (AGP)

I have upped the memory and upgraded the video card since the original build.

I'm still holding on my system. Athlon XP 1800+ with 512Megs and 128MB NVIDIA Geforce Ti 4200 AGP. It's WoW capable but at the lowest settings.

When you get bored, try OCing your cpu.

I have dfi ultra d and it oc's like a beast. opty is running stable at 2.8 @1.3volts (undervolted for cooler temps/silence).

Thanks, I ran a couple of benchs yesterday.
3DMark2001se=just short of 30,000.
3DMark05=9657.
I think this is respectable since I am still burning in the cpu and vid card.
The mobo was purchased off eBay for $50.
I just had a feeling the guy was honest and he was telling the truth about the MB being almost new.
Anyway I am happy with the rig.
I looked up the msrp of the MB and appears to be well over $100 on a couple of major venders online.

I'm still holding on to my two desktops for now (see sig). I'm waiting for quad core to come out before thinking about upgrading.

I downloaded 3dMark06 yesterday and ran this bench on the system. It benched 5401, I don't know if this is good bad or ugly.
That is what it benched. Anyway I am pleased with the system. Haven't gotton into any game that caused any problems as yet.

I attempted to hookup two monitors to the ATI card and one of them would not work.
I called the vender that I purchased the card from and received a RMA to return the card.
I am getting credit on the ATI card and getting a Sapphire X1950 Pro instead.
Clocked higher with core and memory + $65 less money.
So I will get a return of some money.
I think this will be a better deal for me.

Seems as though all is going well.
I ran 3DMark05 & 06.
The scores are
05=9931
06=4779

I don't know enough about the scores to tell if they are good or not.
