What the hell is this?
Does anyone know?
$137 is rarely a good deal for anything...

it's a sound blaster live card wiht full 5.1 dolby sound support for 4 speakers (or more I think). It also has the live drive ir, which is a panel that fits in a drive bay. It has all the audio plugs you need, including digital input and output along with other plugs. It also has a remote. If you have a minidisc, don't have an optical output, and are just dying to get digital recording, this is it.

This sucker normally goes for $200, so $137 ain't a bad deal. Heck the Live! Drive that comes with it retail for that much.

Ohhhh,
I feel stupid.
Actually it is a good deal.
I guess I missed the whole SB = ? thing and guessed it was a SACD or DVD-Audio disc for a hefty price...
thanks,
Is there any advantage of the platinum 5.1 over the x gamer 5.1? the x gamer is only 83.95 minus the 10 off 30 coupon.

the difference is the live drive and the software bundle...it's essentially the same card...
thanks gear02. dont think i need the any of that software or the live drive so i dont think im gonna spend the extra dollers to get it. i figure for $80 the x gamer will do me just fine

OH BABY! Just got mine in today (ordered it a week ago from buy.com). THe live drive is the best thing if you are an audiophile and those optical input/outputs are impossible to find on a pc card. Usually, they're on some no name brand sound card, but these babies are on a sound blaster live! Comes with a remote, Deus Ex, Unreal Tournament, Thief 2, and MDK2 (all full versions).
It's pricey, but if you love those games or have a minidisc recorder, this is it.
Otherwise, I would suggest a Sound Blaster Live 5.1 Value (if you can find it). The Value has little software (which you don't need) but it's the exact same card that all the 5.1s have. The MP3+ or the XGamer just have different software bundles. If you don't care for those, go for the Value.
I price matched it at the Best Buy B&M store and i had them called the CompUSA for the price match...
before anyone say anything..i know in CompUSA its the Regular Sound Blaster Platinum...
but then again why did i walk away with a Soundblaster Platinum Live 5.1 for 97???
it retails for 199..
