I think the killer got off easy...

An inmate accused of forcibly tattooing a slain 10-year-old girl's name onto her killer's forehead in an Indiana prison was the victim's cousin, a family friend said.

Jared Harris, 22, is a cousin of Katlyn "Katie" Collman, family friend and spokesman Terry Gray confirmed to The Republic newspaper. He said he did not believe they knew each other well.

Harris, 22, who is serving time on a burglary conviction at Wabash Valley state prison in Carlisle, has been charged with battery and is accused of tattooing "KATIE'S REVENGE" across Anthony Ray Stockelman's forehead.

Harris told prison officials the attack was in revenge, according to an affidavit.

Stockelman is serving a life sentence after pleading guilty to abducting, molesting and killing the fourth-grader, who lived about 70 miles south of Indianapolis. She was missing for five days before her body was found Jan. 30, 2005, in a creek about 15 miles from her home.

The affidavit said that prison officials transferred Harris to the same prison wing as Stockelman on Sept. 19, three days before the attack, and that Harris subsequently threatened Stockelman's life several times.

Harris slipped into the open cell Stockelman shared with another prisoner on Sept. 22 and, when Stockelman returned, Harris closed the locking cell door, according to the affidavit.

Stockelman told investigators that Harris put his right hand around his throat and told him, "I'm either gonna stick you and leave you bleeding or I'm gonna tattoo you." After applying the tattoo using a makeshift tattoo gun, Harris discarded the device in a trash can, he told investigators.

This wouldn't have happened with immediate execution / death penalty.

So I wonder what they are gonna do to the tattoo guy? Probably add time to his sentence for "aggravated assault" or something.

Kinda odd that they'd put a regular burglary guy in the same cell block as convicted killers (guess he wasn't on "death row" I suppose... since he got a life sentence.)

Yeah but way too many people on death row have been vindicated for us to do that.

Child killers who don't get death from the judge usually do from the inmates.

unfortunately, not true. some child killers survive in gp and some get caught slipping, but most go into pc (protective custody) and serve out their term.

high profile child killers/deviants try to get into isolation.

You know, I can't hel but feel sorry for everyone involved.
And I can't help but a solid chunk of me feel glad for the cousin. Not that it's a good thing, but man...
Or in the words of Chris Rock. I'm not saying he's right, "but I understand!"

I wonder if he'll sue to the state to get enough plastic surgery to remove the damange, since he was in state custody when it happened.

That's a crime. Two wrongs don't make a right.

There is a large, large contingent that most certainly does not believe this. He murdered that little girl, by his own admission. Yes, death is more than a just punishment for him.

if this child was related to you .im sure you wish him a life of living in the comfort of your tax dollars at work . were he is getting 3 squares aday .cable tv . free heath care . free education . the use of a work out gym .all for free for the death of a child !

That's what I keep thinking about. I keep thinking, if it had been MY son, I would have wanted to see a lot more than just a tattoo on the guy's forehead. As primal as it sounds, I know a lot of parents who feel the same way.

Yep. If not the death penalty, take away the effing TVs, free education, etc. Make jail tough - a real punishment, not something to be proud of and wear tats proclaiming that you were in jail and likely joined a gang while there. I'm sick of seeing patients with tears tatooed, some filled, some not. What ever happened to making license plates, digging ditches, etc? Actual labor? Any way to pay back the community? Mandatory drug treatment, etc. I've toured many high-security jails, only to be more than amused at the number of TVs, access to huge libraries, and more freedoms than anyonecould have dreamed up 50 years ago, when prison was a real deterrent.
