View Full Version : Visiting Minneapolis-St.Paul, need advice

Hey guys! I'm going up to Minneapolis-St. Paul to interview with 3M. I pretty much have a free day to do stuff and I need to learn as much about the city as possible. 3M puts a LOT of emphasis on living there and I need to answer the question of whether I would like to live in the Twin Cities. I want my answer to be very specific.
So, where should I visit? I'm going to the Mall of America, but I think that's way too touristy. Where should I go?

I can't really think of any place you could go to in one day that would help you decide if you want to live here or not. Short of a large walk in freezer set to Stun.
The mall is touristy, and fun but won't really tell you anything.
Either of the downtowns are decent enough, and the St Paul suburbs are really different from the more uh, overdevoloped MPLS suburbs, I think. But I'm drawing a blank.

There ain't nothing to see or do in MPLS-St. Paul. :P

Well, maybe if you're lucky it'll be like today: High temp 34 degrees and breezy.
Watch lots of episodes of the Mary Tyler Moore show. Ignore Fargo and Drop Dead Gorgeous. We're really not like that.
When they ask why you want to live here, tell them "because it sure beats dying here."

Wow...really? So you guys think it sucks being up there?

No, not really. But bitching about it is the state sport.

If I was up there I'd be going to a Minnesota Wild hockey game and Mall of America (and of course the Ikea across the street.)

No, I really love living here. I just can't think of anything that someone can do or see that would really capture the "feeling" of the place.
Yes, go to the MOA. Then take the light rail to downtown Mpls and walk around for awhile. Be sure to hit Nicollet Mall and the Warehouse District. Fort Snelling is cool, but it's pretty much closed down for the season. If you get over to St. Paul, be sure to make time for the Science Museum. I think the Body Worlds exhibit is still on. Gruesome stuff that you'll never forget.

Been to Science Museum when I first arrived to the States back in 1989 and went to Mendota High.

if you go to the mall, make sure to do underwater world, that's a cool place.
I think the problem is that this time of year isn't really the best time. Summer or winter, there are cool places to be and things to do. But late fall is blah.

It's too late to watch the leaves change, but if you watch closely, you can see the state changing from blue to red.
Oh yeah, watch "Jingle All The Way" too.
