Actually it is the birdie doing the watching. A heron at the Mission Bay Marina scans the water below for something for dinner.

That's a beautiful pic, the lighting is great. The legs and neck look a little short for a heron, do you know what species it is?

Once again, the pics from my gallery page seem to load a bit slower- you may have to either right click on it and then on "show picture" or just refresh. They look better when I link there than when I use Photobucket.

I like it alot. It does seem to have a tendency to over expose when I use matrix metering but I am learning to adjust for that. I heard the D70 had the same problem. I have been working a lot lately so haven't taken many pics since I got back from Colorado.
It is just a heron- not a great blue heron which is taller and has a longer neck.

It is too late to do one for 2007 so I will have to shoot for 2008. There is not enough time left to get one printed and try to sell copies. I know you saw the mock-up I have in my gallery. That was as far as I got with it, but learned more about what I need to do for next time.

the D70 tends to under-expose in matrix, has to do with preserving the highlights(not blowing stuff out). After I loaded a custom curve the problem, if you want to call it that, has largely disappeared and I'm much more pleased with the colors and exposure.
glad you like it! lots of people don't appreciate all the extras nikon throws into their lower end cams.

I don't mind, in fact like, that it has things I do not know how to use yet. That means that as I learn more, I will be able to do it with the same camera. For now, I am using the EV adjustment to underexpose by -0.3 which works pretty well on the overexposure problem. I also turned down the factory settings for contrast and saturation since they were too high for my tastes. The reds in particular were over done. They seem to have set things for bold and saturated colors. Part of the process- trying to use what you have to achieve what you think you want. Hopefully I will have time to get out some more with it this week. I worked 40 hours and then had to go to jury duty on one of my days off this week.

excellent! yeah, lots of people like that oversaturated look. There's a book called understanding exposure that's awesome.
