View Full Version : How long does meat in the fridge stay good for?

I had some carne asada on Sunday but had way too much. I put the rest in the fridge uncooked in a sealed tuperware. If I grilled it up today, would I die?

How cold is your fridge?
You might be ok.... if it is close to freezing. Just make sure to seriously cook it thouroughly to make sure that any bacteria is killed.

Might have been better to just have cooked it at the time, refrigerate it, & reheat it later:bandit:

Look at it, smell it. If it looks and smells ok, just make sure to cook it really well and you should be ok.

If it is in marinade, the acidity may help it keep longer. Although your meat may be mushier as the acids continue to break down the fibers. Jenny is right, try some and let your nose be your guide.

It doesn't smell bad and there is no marinade, just onions and cilantro. I am a little worried because I am going to grill it up for some friends. If I am not posting on Sunday, it means I am in the hospital. Wish me luck.

I've left meat (actually unmarinated at that) in the fridge for much longer than that before cooking it. As long as you cook it well, you probably could survive (although bear in mind that I have a cast-iron stomach).

I'm alive! I bought some more carne just in case but yeah I grilled up the meat that was in the fridge this whole time, and it was still good. Actually, it was excellent. Thanks for all your advice everyone.

:stupid: I eat anything, including stinky meat. Usually cooked in the cast iron pan that sits on my stove and gets used daily for weeks at a time without getting washed. It takes a couple uses for the pan to become good and seasoned w/ garlic and onions and such. Delish!
