renovation

I'm not sure if its worth the trouble or my rates going up. I spent about a year trying to repair my hot tub (its in the house). I have $1500 into repairs and looks as do I will be adding to these cost of $500- $600 now for a controller panel. This has been a nightmare. And a friend master electrician said it is due to a power surge.
Here is my feeling/thoughts: I have played around for a year not knowing it was a power surge that started the problem.
Now I call the insurance company are they going to deny the claim? Because I waited so long to file and tried doing it all out of pocket. And no parts-just bills to show them for replacement parts (replaced and trashed old ones).
And will they pay me but raise my premium-and cancel me at renewal time? Anyway, I know it will show up as a claim on my record! So other companies will know I filed one. :(
