it's called the iceman and is run every year in traverse city, mi. that's way up there not too far from the bridge to the UP.
it was cold. 32ish at the start. but fortunately it started sleeting and snowing after the start. errr, wait.
anyhow, the first pic is of my friend Mark and his gf. He was hurting pretty bad because of a messed up back and leg but still finished. She decided to stay with him and ride together. It sort of takes the fun out of soundly beating him.
i did a lot better this year but my time wasn’t all that much better. the main reason is that they added about 1.5 miles. meh. i'm sure i could cut another 25 minutes off my time (2:52) if i just trained hard for the event. my overall fitness is a lot better than it has been for the last decade or so but that doesn't mean you can ramp up the intensity for 2.5+ hours and stay with the other dudes that ride hard all season.
also, see those riders pushing their bikes up the hill? i made it up all of them w/o doing so. wOOt!
