and Best Buy is blaiming them..... typical Best Buy Customer Unservice. Atleast Sony is doing something sheesh.

Damn dial-up internet at home. It's hard to squeeze video through a phone line. I swear... half the reason I go to work anymore is for the broadband connection.
But, luckily, text-based info can be found on such topics:

Sounds to me like someone else decided to do an "exchange", Best Buy didn't check the contents of the package, and then put it back on the shelf. No mention of it being one of their infamous "open box items" though.
At least it was Classico, good stuff IMO.

well, working at sears, I got to see examples of this firsthand. Some people try to scam, some get scammed and want you to fix it. Does the camcorder box have a security sticker? Could it have been the guy on the truck who stole it? Is it even possible to carefully remove said sticker and re-attach?
the customer case is suspicious, but Best Buys iron fisted approach to customer service is appalling and they'd rather let the story inflate that chalk one up to shrink.
It's a miracle they don't have a competitor who can show them how to take care of a customer. Come to think of it, why do I still shop there?

Eh, that'd be nice, but the $7 per month dial-up will have to do until the student loans are paid off or I get a hellofa raise. I really don't mind 'cause all of the bandwidth-intensive stuff can be done from work (i.e. music downloads, youtube links, etc...) :)

That's why I haven't shopped at BB for a long time. Its customer service is just horrible.

Ha! This is why I always told my coworkers at OfficeMax...CHECK THE BOX! Stupid returns desk clerk.

I don't think I've ever had a bad experience at BB. Though they only made it to the southern LA/MS/AL market a few years ago, and before spraying acoustic foam on their ceilings it sounded like you were in a big echo chamber with annoying/indistinguisible music hitting you from all directs courtesy of a steel, flat, ceiling.
I do shop there for cheap DVDs, the occasional computer gadget, etc. Also for cables and other misc. stuff. I've never bought a big product (like a plasma TV) from them, so I don't know how that would go. I do know that their camera people typically don't know a thing about any of their cameras, except, "Well, this one takes big pictures, and this one takes smaller ones, and you don't want these two because they use that old film stuff..." etc.
I also like to browse to see some electronics I might buy online or something first hand.
One thing that annoys me the most is how their HD signals don't look very HD on their HD TVs. I've seen HD, and it's typically beautiful. Even a zillion-dollar plasma looks crappy at Best Buy. I'm not sure what they're doing wrong, but even the "split screen" - HD images on one side and regular on the other aren't usually discernable, except for maybe a little less sparkling pixelation on the "regular" side.

I've heard several such stories regarding Best Buy purchases in the past (I think some were high end video cards that weren't in the box). Seems that if the package appears sealed, they just give someone a refund and stick it back on the shelf (or they have some pretty crooked employees). I'll have to make a mental note to be sure to open anything I buy there before leaving the store.

I suppose this is bad, but I have returned cameras and forgotten to put the charger cable or something in the box.
The spagetti and other junk is to have matched the camera's weight perfectly, so this was a sony side job.

It amazes me what people do to scam a business

Kinda doubt it - I'd bet it was a BestBuy stockroom job. I worked retail in high school at a K-mart & I head of the overnight stock guys doing similar stuff - like taking a stack of Nintendo games & putting them into a toaster oven box, hiding it on a shelf somewhere and then coming in the next day to buy it. Big retail places have more loss due to employee theft than anything else.
