I'll run down the games I've played. These are my personal ratings, and probably heavily reflect rather I like the genre or not. Certainly not unbiased reviews :)

Super Monkey Ball: Seems like a fun game, if you like this type of game. Controls seemed to map quite well to the Wii controller. RATING: B

Rayman Raving Rabbids (or something like that): So far I've found it to be VERY fun. Lots of little minigames that all make quite fun and unique use of the controls. They really spend a lot of time thinking about different ways to use the Wii controls. The only negative I have about this game is that I got tired fast playing it. Also, my wrists hurt for several days if I spent too long playing it. This game would be a blast at parties. RATING: A

COD3: I didn't like it at all. Although, I'm not a huge FPS fan, so that may be why I didn't like it. Controls were a little clunky, and I had no idea where I was, what I was doing, or who I was supposed to shoot. Which, come to think of it, is probably a lot like war. RATING: D

Trauma Center: Second Opinion: Another fun game. My biggest complaint about it was that there was too much story between the action parts. You'd get done with a surgery, be ready to do another, and have like 5 minutes of talking to sit thorough. Controls work quite well, and it's another game that really fits well to the Wii's controller scheme. RATING: B+

Marvel Ultimate Alliance: I really liked this game, but then again, I really like these types of games. If you want great graphics, stay away from this one though :) Used the Wii controllers pretty well, although I found that for common things, I would rather use the buttons than the motion. For instance, to attack, you could either push A for wiggle the remote. Since you're attacking all the time, it got irritating to wiggle the remote all the time. Fortunately, they did a really good job of giving you the option of using buttons instead of the motions if you wanted. RATING: A

Agreed. Red Steel is more fun and easier to control. It's also a lot less confusing about what to do next/where to go.

Red Steel is great, another vote for that, also, I haven't played it yet, but the consensus seems to be that Zelda=<3.

I haven't played any of the Zelda games since the original NES version, but the new one is so much fun. Highly recommended.

Anybody have any recommendations for good multi-player games? Anybody know how Farcry is? From what I read, it's not that great, but there seem to be no good fps out there. I just want something to hold me over until metroid comes out. :)

Um, Red Steel is a good FPS it is very fun in multi-player. Reminds me a lot of GoldenEye

I just rented this game, and it is a blast! The dancing game in particular is awesome. My elbow is about to fall off. I don't know about the replay value, though. Probably a better rental than purchase, at least for me.

Ditto on Raymand Raving Rabbids! The minigames are a lot of fun, and I'd keep it around for parties and whatnot. It definitely takes a toll on your wrists & arms though.

We also have Excite Truck, and we really enjoy that. It feels a lot like one of the driving games at an arcade, with a bit more out-of-control fun (well, for me anyway, cuz I've always had a hard time controlling driving games). It seems to appeal to everyone, being a huge hit with my hard-core gamer husband, me (a Nintendo fan with a short attention span), and even my 60yr old accountant father.

Also, I haven't tried it, but the guy I talked to at Game Stop was raving about Elebits. He said it took advantage of the remote, and he enjoyed the game play a lot. It's on our rental queue at Gamefly, so I'll let you know how it is when we get it.

Elebits is a lot of fun and having finally gotten to play Twilight Princess. OMFG that game is amazing.

Here's another vote for the new Zelda game. I haven't played it that much yet, but I have seen most of it while my step son was playing it.

Trauma Center is also a lot of fun.

Both of these are must have in my book.

I've also played elebits and frankly I didn't find it all that much fun. Although that could have been because the tutorial mode takes nearly an hour to play through.

Cars was ok, but again not that great. Very hard for me to control with the remote.

Super Swing Golf, I'm on the fence with. I like the concept but the controls are a lot harder to get used to then Wii Sports golf. You might want to rent this one before deciding to purchase it.

i rented elebits for the week...

yeah, this game takes full control of the wiimote's motion sensing capabilities. i love how you can not only lift objects up and down, but you can pull and push them too. the physics of the game is truly amazing.

but with that said, i can't see myself actually buying this game. yeah, it's a bit of a puzzle game which appeals to me but it's also not that captivating. maybe i haven't played it enough yet. the reviews say that this game really shines from the ability to send each other custom levels... perhaps i have to try that.

but for now, yes, the game is truly impressive in its motion sensing aspect. but actual gameplay doesn't do it for me...for now.

After 2 days of playing Elebits, I agree with CornMonkey. Currently, I really like the game. However, not sure if I can see myself playing it for 100 hours or anything. There's something very fun about being able to just chuck objects around the room. Reminds me of the show "Finders Keepers" that was on Nickelodeon for a couple of years in the 80's.

Does anyone else find the "push" and "pull" motions of the Wiimote to be awkward? I think it's neat that they can do it, but whenever I need to do a "pull", I seem to have the wiimote up against my body so that I can't do it.

if i need to pull something (like a door), i just start out with my hand extended way out in front of me. then i press the button, and "pull" the object bringing my hand close to my body. and vice versa.

I can't stop playing Excite Truck. Great game, the onl drawback I can see is that you can't have any more then 2 players.

WarioWare: Smooth Moves: I rented this game this weekend. Like a lot of other games, it's mainly an assortment of minigames. The way they are presented is basically you're showing 1/2 of a cartoon, then you play a series of minigames, and then you see the other 1/2 of the cartoon. Frankly, I didn't like this game very much. For one, I found the cartoons to be very irritating. There was no way to skip the cutscenes and get to the game, and I didn't find them very funny. A lot of the minigames were fun, but I thought that they were presented WAY too quickly. Many times I'd lose the game before I had any idea what I was really supposed to do. It does find a lot of inventive ways to use the Wiimote though, and it gets credit for that. All the reviews I've seen on it are pretty positive, so I must just be an oddball. Rating: C-

Thanks for the review Cubsfan! I honestly need consumer reviews like this before I even think about purchasing a Wii game. I really didn't know what to think about this game. From what i've read, there has been some mixed reviews.

That's actually the point of WarioWare games - they're not difficult overall, but the fun is trying to figure out as fast as possible what to do. I actually thought these games were too slow, and the DS version went much quicker. Overall though, it was creative, and will be a fabulous party game.

I do agree though, the mini-movies were annoying, and over-done. I'd give it a B+.

This is the next on my purchase list, after Wii Play which I should be getting tomorrow (pre order).

Add another C review for Wario Ware. I've never played any other games in this series, but it was just too ADD for me. And not being able to skip the cut scenes drove me crazy.

I'd rather have raving rabbids.

if you guys are playing Wario Ware by yourselves, then yes the game is lackluster, to say the least.

BUT...

if playing in a 3+ player environment, oh man, let the good times roll. especially once you start unlocking all the multiplayer modes, theres this one game called Bungie Buddies ... :hihi:

now, if you turn Wario Ware into a drinking game, then it gets even more ridiculous..... :D

Zelda was pretty awesome. I believe it's the only game I've actually played all the way through and didn't cheat. Eventhough I don't check and beat games either, cause if I cheat, I usually stop playing a game soon after:)

Picked up Wii Play today. Pretty fun. Also went to a local gamestop and picked up 3 nunchucks (now I have 4 wii motes and 4 chucks) and Excite Trucks. I only played it for 23 minutes, but man it rules. I can't wait to race the fiance. She played Wii Sports for like 45 minutes as a mini workout.

thats EXACTLY what im gonna do with it - a workout machine.

i hope more games ala PS2's eyetoy work out games will be released for the wii also. Not that the simple boxing game isnt a mini-workout itself...

Yesterday, the day Wii Play got released, I cruised on over to Best Buy during my lunch break and picked up a copy. They only had 4 left when I got there. Not that it helps, but I'm just sharing. :)

Wii Play is just a bunch of small games, that would be fun (again) in a multiplayer environment. If you need a remote, then Wii Play is a great value, as you're getting 9 "arcade/Flash-like" games for $10.

What the heck, how come everybody's getting their Wii play so easilly? I'm now thinking about cancelling my order from bestbuy and just trying to find it locally. You would think best buy would give out their stock to the people who preordered first (I preordred at the end of December). :disa:

I got mine with a Pre-Order through EBGames, no problem when picking it up. Also went to Best Buy and a guy said "Can I get Wii Play?" "Did you Pre-Order?" "No, but I called 20 minutes ago and you guys said you had it in." "One second, Sir."

He left the store with a copy of Wii Play.

Good mindless entertainment go for the Metal Slug series. You'll dig how you throw grenades.

I picked up Wii Play yesterday at T R US...it was sold out at BB and CC, but I walked right in and got one.

Random fact...

Controller 1 - Blue Hand
2 - Red Hand
3 - Green Hand
4 - Orange Hand

Wii Game List I'm looking forward to:

Super Mario Galaxy (Est. Release 12/01/07)
Metroid Prime (Est. Release 03/14/07)
*I'm guessing they decided that this game won't have online capabilities? If this is the final decision, I probably won't get this game.
Super Smash Brawl (Est. Release 12/01/07)

Anybody else have any games they're looking forward to and why?

There are a couple games I'm on the fence about: Bust a move bash (I heard it supports 8 players), and Cooking Mama. Haven't heard any word on Wii music.

Yeah, all the games seem fairly short. The only ones I see people playing on and on is possibly pool and the tanks game. I can't play that ping pong game more than 1 time a day. I got a gold medal (100 rallys) and my eyes started tearing up. I must've blinked once or twice that whole rally (it's killer on the eyes!).

I've only played the game for about an hour but it's pretty fun! Haven't tried more than 1 player yet though.

I just played SSX Blur. My verdict: Ok, but not great.

It's very hard to learn the controls. Once you do, it's a lot of fun but there's not much variety in terms of gameplay. I was hoping an SSX 3 style of game where you could just play on a very, very long run down a mountain without any goals. Here, you can race, slolom (which is insanely hard), half pipe, points, and big air.

Only get this if you're bored or love SSX. Not for casual gamers.

I just played SSX Blur. My verdict: Ok, but not great.

I think you're being very generous. I hate it. I hate it. I hate it. The controls absolutely ruin this game. I've played all the SSX games on PS2, and this one is not worth playing. I'm so disappointed I could cry.

-Ubers are very hard to do. It took me close to 50 tries to get the first one to work, and when I finally got it I was expected some amazing trick, but it was completely lame. Maybe some of the later ones (which you have to earn) are cool, but it was a major let down after that many tries. I understand making some of the cool things hard to do. If everything was easy, it would lose some fun. But you simply cannot just pick up the controller and play, even the beginning levels.

-The controls are jerky. I feel disconnected from the game and like I can't make the guy do what I want him to. Even the most basic things, like I try a backflip and he does a 540 to the left instead. I'm so focused on trying to move the remote in just the right way I'm running into trees. And where they could have made good use of the controls (throwing snowballs) instead of using the remote to aim at a target like every other game with projectiles, there is a crappy auto target system that doesn't work and you have to flick your wrist to throw, which half the time gets interpreted as a jump and you end up flopping around like a fish on a dock.

-The fun is missing. None of the characters talk, and all of the levity is gone. The announcer is boring. The levels are boring. Part of why I liked the previous SSX games is they were entertaining to watch, not just play.

-The music is very generic and forgettable. Then again nothing will ever top the music from SSX Tricky, which was in my opinion the best game of the series. In fact, I think I'm probably going to sell Blur and buy a used copy of SSX Tricky for the GC just so I can play it on my Wii.

I was so excited for this game and it's just unplayable.

My wife loves "Bungee Buddies" which is part of the WarioWare game. It is very simple, but addictive.

I recently got Tiger Woods - my sister in law works for EA Games. :) I am not a big golf fan, but I do really enjoy this game. The scenery and the courses are very beutiful, and the gameplay itself is simple and fun. I can't hit the ball striaght to save my life, since I seem to keep twisting the controller during a swing. My friend who does golf regularly can hit it straight every time. You can change the swing mechanics to ignore the twist and always hit straight, but I am trying to learn the right way to do it...

The announcers are horrible. While I am playing as Tiger, they keep cracking jokes about how much I suck. You can turn them off as well.

The "Game Face" feature (creating a digital version of you that is 1000X more advanced than a "mii") is cool, but the controls are awkward. I've spent about 1/2 hour on my Game Face, and it is still way too good looking for anyone to think that it is actually me. Changing one characterstic results in another looking different, so I keep going back and forth and I can't seem to get it right.

The documentation that comes with the game is way to minimal. I guess it assumes that you are already an expert at golf and it's terminology. I had to do some Wiki research to learn how to actually play some of the modes.

Overall, this game is clearly a good fit for the Wii with it's TrueSwing system.

My girlfriend has been playing Super Paper Mario lately. But she sat quietly and watched me play all the way through Zelda.

Where did you find her? I could use a girlfriend like that.

The games I really like for the Wii:

Zelda, Super Monkey Ball, Excite Truck

I tried renting Trauma Center, Elebits, and Warioware, but they didn't seem to be games that I would actually want to buy. Of course, I only had them for 5 days each, but they didn't do enough for me to want to go out and purchase them to keep on playing.

I have to admit, Zelda and Excite Truck are pretty addicting.

Old Thread but time to bring it back.

Super Mario Galaxy is worth buying!

I love it so far. It ranks up there with Zelda which I loved.

As a non Mario fan I will say that Galaxy is a very good game.

Excellent use of the 'chuck and Wiimote.

Since we're bringing back old threads.....

Can you play gamecube games on the Wii?

I guess no one remembers that person who must have posted that question 10 times no matter the answer he received.

So much for my weak attempt at humor.

What's the recommendation on Guitar Hero III and the Wii Zapper? They were sold out at Best Buy but I walked into a Wal-Mart and they had some for sale.

My boyfriend's roommate just got Guitar Hero III....sooooooo much fun! I haven't looked at all of the song list...but anything with Heart's "Barracuda" must be good!

GH III was on my must have list, until the news that it only plays in mono. :throw:

Great QA team there Activision! It's now on my Wait and See list to see if they ever fix the issue. Since the Wii doesn't have a hard drive it's going to be hard to patch.

Supposedly they pulled them to try and fix them. Haven't seen too much update on this yet though.

Ah. I hadn't heard that they had pulled them. Hopefully they will get it taken care of.

I thought the controversy was that it only played in 2 channel stereo, not 5 channel surround. While that is lame, I can live with stereo...

From what I have read, while the sound does come from the front two speakers, it's the exact same signal with no stereo separation.

Here's the first Google hit of images that show the output from both the left and right channels.

I got that when it came out and I didn't like it that much at all. The mini games are pretty much the same. I like the other versions much better. My favorite game however is the random cut the string to see if you get catapulted into the air.

I think GH3 is a lot of fun. Multi-player should be cool as well. Only complaint is that they do not sell individual guitars yet. (I don't think).

I played Metroid, but was VERY VERY disappointed at the fact that there was no multi-player (or even co-op) option.

Can't wait for Brawl. That will be a huge game for Nintendo, especially since there is multi-player on more than just regular games, but on home-run derby, etc as well.

just got Rayman Raving Rabbits 2, and it's a blast. There's more multi-player action, which is great. My hubby and I were always fighting over who got to play in the first game.

I tried to play 1 recently and for some reason I can't get it to let me play any of the multiplayer stuff. It was allowing it before (as I unlocked them) Now none of it is open. :(

I got the Wii Zapper and GH:III. Links Crossbow Training is fun and it takes some time to get used to shoot and move. You'll probably get tired of it after a month or so.

GH:III - I just got it this weekend and it's really fun. I wish there was more songs. Has 42 songs and it's the same 42 songs on Easy, Medium, Hard and Expert. Definite must have.

I saw on G4 Tech TV that they were replacing your GHIII mono disc with a stereo one, or whatever it is they need to do to bump the game up to stereo.

It was scrolling on the bottom of the screen all weekend.
