View Full Version : System Shows Black Screen or Wavy Lines Help Please

I have a PCI Graphics card and everytime I've tried to replace the PCI Graphics card and put in an AGP Graphics card in the AGP slot either the system doesn't bootup to Windows or it does but I just can't see anything and it's black (that was with a Matrox G400). Or, the system does boot up to Windows (This was the Diamond Viper II and Diamond Stealth III S540 Xtreme), but the image isn't stable at all. Meaning there seems to be wavy distortions. Like you can see the icons or the border of a window or even text sorta move in a wavy fashion. Does anyone know what's wrong? It seems like it's the AGP slot because everything works fine with a PCI Graphics card. Anyone ever have this problem before? Is it a faulty AGP slot? I have an Aopen AX6BC motherboard by the way and Celeron 300A oc'ed to 450.

Have you removed the drivers for the PCI card before installing the new AGP card? It's a simple mistake I tend to do whenever installing a new card.
Nice name Doobu, Korean for tofu. :)

Yah I've removed the PCI drivers before I installed it. So I don't know what's going wrong.

I seem to be having the same problem with a Diamond Speedstar a200 (8meg AGP Savage4 chipset). I have a FIC VA-503+ and I did a clean install of WinME and this happened. I then decided to do a clean install of Win98 and still had the same problem.
Couple things to try in your BIOS (if it supports these items) setup:
Disable VGA to use IRQ
Set Primary Vid card to AGP
Set PNP OS to No

Well, I fixed mine. I needed the latest VIA Apollo MVP3 (the chipset for my mobo) drivers. After installing them, I had no problems.
Make sure you got the latest chipset drivers. And read the FAQ's at your mobo's website. Good luck.
