Just bought a laptop and I am trying to find out how connect it to the internet using my wireless connection at the house?

Assuming that 1) it has a wireless card, 2) the card is turned on and 3) the proper drivers are loaded, you should be able to either launch the wireless utility that came with the card & search for an access point, or right click on the wireless network icon in your systray & choose 'view available wireless connections' & pick one.

If you're running any type of security on your access point, you may also have to either add the MAC address of your new card or issue a WEP key for it.

Well here's what I'd do...

First... drop your encryption and access rules for your wireless router.

Next... add your laptop's wireless MAC address to the "accepted" list of your router.

Next... turn access control on (to shut other outside MAC addresses out of your network)

Finally, configure your WEP or other encryption.
