Open your microwave, insert your WindowsME disc, set for twenty seconds, turn off the lights in the kitchen, press start...enjoy.
Anyway, WinMe may be installing less-good drivers for some of your hardware. The hanging problem you're describing often occurs when a driver is trying to shut down some piece of hardware but the hardware isn't responding with the proper "ok-I'm ready to shut down."

That was good! Sounds like you're an author of "WinMe for dummies"

Ask for free cds and put em in ur nukeblaster (Microwave) It makes for great entertainment on a date. Kinda reminds me of spearmint lifesavers and there glow in the dark capacities... (I must be an 80's child...)

tone810,
Did you upgrade or do a clean install?
WinME is much less stable if you upgrade. Backup your data ,wipe you disk and do a clean install. Your system will be much more stable for it.
The best way to do it would be:
Reformat your hard drive.
Install Win98se.
Follow Bires' instructions for the WinME CD.
Failing that Reformat and install WinME.

...make sure the internet connection sharing is deselected in your control panels. Windows ME will not let you shut down or sleep if you are setup to share an internet connection over your LAN. But only computer geeks setup an home network right.....

alot of the times it will do that because of grounding out on the motherboard. Make sure the motherboard is touching nothing, but the plastic feet.

I just upgraded to WinMe from 98 and i no longer have that problem. I dont think it had to do with the os though. go into your bios, reset all the settings, restart and adjust the settings like they were. i'm sure this will fix it.
on a side note. For some reason my computer restarts by itself now at the most random times. Any idea's???
