HELP!! I just got my Dell Inspiron 8000, sweeet notebook
i added the 10/100 3com integrated combo card and it will not connect to my cable service provider. I do not believe it's the card's fault because I had this problem before with an old old HP computer. It did not work with ME, and i just did an upgrade to Win2k, same problem. I have Time Warner Road Runner service and to set up, all I have to do is go to IPCONFIG (winipcfg in ME) and /Release and /Renew.
It did neither and at first it was IPAutoconfiguration (because it was stuck at 169.254.xxxx) and I was able to disable that in regedit.exe, but still i was unable to connect to the network. the card is working fine, with the green light on, and it even thinks that I'm connect because the system status says its Connected at 10mbs.
can anybody help?? is there something up with the DHCP or something?
this is the error i get when i try ipconfig /RENEW, it says the server DHCP is unavailable (or not found something like that) PLease Help, cuz this is getting really frustrating with calls to Dell and Time Warner.
