The other day I made the below post...and apparently hit a nerve... but the truth is other companies (albiet off brands) have been offering such deals... and if Dell wants to compete they have to follow suit...I remember my first computer which cost $3000... which was a great price AT THAT TIME... and now the mental price threshold for most consumers is about $1000... so what DELL should be doing is offering the best computer deal they can put together at that price and still make a reasonable profit... to keep costs down they could make the deal non customizable... IMHO Dell gives customers way too many options which has to raise costs.

Come on Dell! I've been looking for a "Real Dell Deal" to replace a number of aging machines.

When are you going to offer a bundle discount on a loaded high end computer? The Pentium D is obsolete compared to your new Core 2 Duo's!Say a Dimension 9200 with C2D 6600, 2 GB memory, a 250 GBhard drive , dual drives, a decent video card, Vista Premium, and a 20" digital monitor.

If you can keep the price under $1000 you'll corner a huge market!

As mentioned above, you can upgrade this configuration however you like. Upgrading to a Core 2 Duo E6300 costs $50. They're providing a base configuration, which is absolutely the right way to go, IMHO, since it allows you to pick and choose what you want instead of making you take things you don't want.

If you have found a place that offers a computer like this with a 22" widescreen LCD monitor at a lower shipped price than this without rebate, please do let us know. Thanks!

With regards to high end PC systems as described, check out the options on Tigerdirect.com. There are several good systems for under $1000 if you're willing to go with lesser brands and buy a monitor separately. Still, I'm holding out for a Dell at least a little while longer because of my past favorable experience

Dell's problems of late are due in part to poor management which is why the recent shakeup....and their website has gotten way too complicated and confusing for the typical PC user... which is another reason to monitor gotapex.com because it does highlight the best ongoing deals.

Dell is certainly aware that it has fallen behind HP which is why it's now asking it's customers for feedback... check out dellideastorm.com

I absolutely agree with you that if you're willing to buy some components elsewhere, you can build a computer to your liking elsewhere.

Often, upgrading things like the media drive, hard drive, memory, or video card is best done later from a different etailer.

When we consider picking up a computer at 1 place (ie. for instance if you're buying a computer for your family), Dell is still very very difficult to beat.
