Today's bit of useless knowledge:

Did y'ever notice that the letters "YKK" appear on most zippers? Take a look, I betcha it's there. I noticed this a while ago and had been wondering what it meant. Sitting here at the computer this evening, bored as hell, and finally remembered to look it up.

Turns out to be not too exciting: YKK is simply the name of the world's largest manufacturer of zippers. Did anyone know this?

Yawn?

I did know that, however I've seen it appearing less and less on zippers. I've also noticed that the zippers that don't bear the name seem to have a higher failure/breakage rate for me.

i thought it had something to do with the patent on the zipper. Just a manufacturer huh?

A fellow worker recently noticed a story about YKK on the cover of a Japanese trade magazine around here. He said that YKK has about 70% of the world zipper market.

Yes I did, and I did see it once or twice while in China, though I saw more without.
