I was in the store today and everyone was blue. All New Jersey stores and most others are closing.

Got a link?

:stupid:

I'd like to see that. If so, I'll be amazed. I always thought they did really well.

Thanks MD!

I wonder if the one near me is closing. I had just started to buy some stuff there for work, too. Getting somebody at the business sales desk was a PITA though. Sometimes I'd be waiting for half an hour or more. But the discount was impressive when they finally got around to me.

Other than that, bring on the liquidation sales! Suckas!

Pretty much when Fry's opened here in Indy, we all could see that it was the beginning of the end for CompUSA...

Fry's prices were better, their inventory level was better, their store was MASSIVE (you could put CompUSA, BestBuy, Office Depot, and a StarBucks all together to equal what they did with the location here.)

Pretty much CompUSA pulled too many "we advertised it, but we don't currently have any in stock" routines for me. Kinda like a bait and switch but without switching you onto another good deal.

Oh well, we shall see if it will close here as the one in Indy is the only one in the whole state.

Only 100 stores survived and there is none in Orange County. I might go to the CompUSA near my mother-in-law's house and check out to see what they has left.

and there go the Twin City stores. Sigh. Well maybe Frys will finally decide to come here and move into those places. Otherwise, it's Best Buy, CC or the lone microcenter.

The only time I ever shopped at CompUSA was when i needed a cheap replacement part like a keyboard or mouse. They never had lines and they always had that type of crap in stock. I'm not crying over their closes.

The 103 remaining stores (http://www.compusa.com/locations/store.asp)

I'm not gonna cry over this - I don't think I've ever actually bought anything from them, even though there's one about 2 miles from my house (not for long, tho!)

I just hope the store doesn't sit empty.

Also, from discussion over on FW, it doesn't sound like there will be any great deals from this.

I have heard that they are doing 20% off retail list price so don't expect any real deals. Also, if you have any gift cards, I sugget you burn them up ASAP.

I just did a store location search for one around me and its only listing one 68 miles away as the closest in Lansing, Michigan.

I never disliked CU, but I wasn't exactly a frequent shopper either. Seemed like most of their best deals came with multiple rebates...not a big fan.

Fry's need to get out here to the East Coast. Until then, it's NewEgg and Outpost. :D

All the ones in the Sacramento area are closing. :/ The only stuff I bought from there was my shiny 22" LCD monitor and a great Swissgear backpack for my laptop during the black friday blitz. We only have one Fry's here in Sac, and it's about 40 minutes in good traffic to get there normally.

I just did a store location search for one around me and its only listing one 68 miles away as the closest in Lansing, Michigan. You know, you really have to watch these things. They start out at 10-20 percent, but ramp up pretty quickly. You have to hunt and bide your time before the magic crazy point where everything vanishes.

Having said that, 2 things were telling to me when I went there today. A, the lady said they will be open 90 days. This is a lie. 30 tops. But I saw someone destroying compusa branded stock, which seemed really odd to me. But I think it's further proof they don't plan on being open past march.

The second thing is that I saw a bunch of signs in the back for 30-75 percent off. So They were getting ready to change the percentage already. Which is good, cause I have my eye on a tool kit and some more xbox point cards. But like I said, the way these things go, you really have to hit them on a daily basis, and know when to wait, and when to snap things up.

Ok, this just pisses me off to no end. CompUSA bought out the Goodguys chain in order to enter the audio/video market. After running them into the ground, they closed all but a few Goodguys stores. (CompUSA knew nothing about running high end audio/video stores, starting importing crappy cheap equipment, and screwed up everything.) It seems this is just how Compusa does thing.

Ugh...I think all three stores I know about are going under. I went yesterday to look at the 2gb USB SANDISK Cruzer flash drive for I think $25. When I got there there's a sign says they don't honor the local circular prices. So the same flash drive discounted 10% was still like $60. No deals at all.

not yet, I'm holding my smoke for 30 percent or better. Well, I did buy an Xbox Live points card, cause 10 percent off is still pretty good when they almost never go on sale.

Looks like my local store is here to stay. So no big discounts for me.

I rarely go there, unless I know an app or a game I want can't be found anywhere else, or if I'm just going to get something relatively inexpensive, like palm stylettes or something.

The store in my town and the one close to my work closed several months ago. I never saw any great deals during the closing. I would only go to CompUSA if there was a particular deal that made it worth my while. And every time I started looking for something in the store (or find someone to help me), I was constantly reciting in my mind, "I HATE this store...I HATE this store...."

Napoleon54
03-07-2007, 01:18 PM

they will be really stupid if they don't start cutting prices on those stores. I've never heard of store closings that didn't have deals after a week or two into the run.

I think the last straw for me for Comp USA when I went in to get a leather chair for uber cheap for Black Friday and they were all gone. I asked what happened and the guy said all the employees bought them all. None of them made it the sales floor. ugh. That was a pisser.

I think they are more techy and have more variety than BB. In that regard I'm sad to see them go in my area. Microcenter has a lot of stuff but they don't have that many great deals.

I could have sworn they don't allow this. At least I know Best Buy doesn't, maybe it's just store preference.

In MD I went to the Compusa store and it still says 10-30% off. When you look around however there are a lot of 10% off signs. My wife bought an ipod nano case and the FM transmitter/charger combo that was marked 10% off but when we went to pay for it was actually 30% off. So don't let the signs turn you away.

Huh. I stopped by the one here this afternoon and it was the same story- most stuff still 10-20% off with a few things at 30% off. I wonder why they're not updating the signs. They have people holding "Store Closing!!" signs at all the major intersecions and the store is really crowded with customers, but hardly anyone is at the registers buying stuff.

I guess they're not too concerned about getting stuff out the door. Milking it all for it's worth?
