as of Feb 27th, im a full-fledged homeowner.

yay me! :D

A small single family rancher, 2 bedroom, 1 bath, full unfinished basement, full unfinished attic, total of 8000 square feet of real estate (read: lots of landscaping!).

and the haus is yellow. :P

its relatively old, built originally in the early 50s, seller inherited it, but no one has lived in it fully for 10 years, and has been vacant for the past 2 1/2 years. They finally decided to sell it since they lived in South Carolina and had been a bitch to maintain and keep up (especially something theyre not using).

Major repairs and renovations were done 2 years ago too. Newer sidings (yellow!), newer windows, brand new heater/ a/c system, brand new water heater, cesspool refurb'd. They had a guy come in and do maintenance on it regularly, and prior to october 2006 before they listed it, they fixed up the place real nice.

no appliances though (as i said no ones lived in it for 10 years), and the inspector for the mortgage company required a range. Long story, but that almost kept the house from getting anywhere. we did a deal where *I* put up the stove (before i even buy it!!!), and the seller just gives me $200 for it. Cool enough - this way i dont get stuck with any junkyass range im gonna throw out anyway, and i get to choose what i like.

I got a used fridge from my sister, and im probably getting a used dishwasher from a buddy from work. both FREE! so now im down to the washer/dryer. there IS a pair in the basement, but im not sure if it even works. Im thinking of firing em up, but i may not. I'll probably just get brand new.

And then theres the furniture. yikes! ill probably head down to ikea and get some cheapass, nice looking set. I know theyre not that great (they dont use hardwoods), but they do look a lot different from the traditional furnitures.
My living room will just start looking like some yuppie/preppie living room. :dead:

but now i get to choose my own bed! woohoo! no more futons!
no not ikea this time - they have weird sizes/dimensions for their mattresses, so you end up getting fitted sheets from them only to match. you cant simply use other brands.

some things i WILL do to the place:
- renovate/expand the kitchen and merge it with the dining room. its rather small for my taste, and the counters and cabinets look FUGLY! Plus the gas line and the water lines are not even in the same side.
- expand the bathroom. maybe put in a whirlpool bath. And replace the damn carpet flooring with tiles.
-finish the basement. maybe my guitar repair studio/music studio/ bar.
- finish the attic for a nice loft. its spacious enough a 6'6" guy can walk upright and still have a decent headroom, but with reinforcing the floor, it will NOT be up to code for a liveable/sleepable space. i may make this my home theater space tho.
- do some landscaping! in the late spring/summer, ill probably start putting grass and some plants and flower beds around the area. I have 14 full grown trees in my yard!

I cant wait to get my hands dirty again - i missed working with dirt, being handy around the house, getting the creative juices flowing again! all this apartment dwelling ive been living in for close to 8 years is very constricting, and the jobs of working computers and desk-sitting have been too sterile and dainty.

I want to regain my manhood! (ha ha!) dig in the dirt, plow the land, hammer that nail, pound that rock, drill them holes.... and everything innuendo you can think of. he he he!

kidding aside, i know this will ALL be hard work, and im ready to get into it. Its about time, methinks.

and no, i didnt get married, hitched, or engaged. Im doing this all by myself. That seems to be the next question everytime i bring up my house purchase.

sorry, my chosenHaus. :)

housewarming party TBD. Soon. ;)

Congrats man. Lots of work ahead of you, but nothing like being the king of your domain.

Congrats!

Someday when I buy a house first thing I'm gonna do is choose a wall at random and bust it up with a sledge hammer. Then I'll rebuild it. Just 'cause it'll be MINE and I can.
