I recently discovered a bread at the local ACME gocery store which they make in their bakery.

It's called Saloio bread. If you have ever been to Macaroni Grille, it tastes exactly like their bread. It tastes really good lightly toasted.

I am totally addicted to it.

12 Grain.

Any bread whose main ingredient list doesn't start out with the word "enriched" (as in enriched wheat flour).

There are some 40 and 60 calorie breads out now, whole grain, that are actually pretty good. The wife and/or I are most likely to grab one of those.

Oh jeez. Me sits back and waits for THEM to come out of the woodwork. You all know who I'm talking about. :D

But anyway! I usually get unexciting seeded sliced italian bread for general purposes. But for toasting I loves me some english muffins, everything bagels, and english toasting bread (it's kinda almost like pizza dough, makes great toast!). I like a good soft onion roll for burgers.

Wegmans (regional grocery store chain) makes a great jalapeno and cheese bread that I get sometimes and eat the whole loaf on the way home from the store. Same thing for a warm loaf of italian bread from the Columbus bakery in Syracuse; it's run by a bunch of old Italian guys who get up at like 3am every morning and make fresh bread. They're a Syracuse icon.

I love Wegmans Cheese bread although it's high in calories.
Whole wheat or 12 grain is on top of my list though

12 Grain.

Grain varieties are great. I believe it's an acquired taste as you grow older. I remember hating them when I was a kid, but ever since my college years I tried forcing myself to eat them due to health concerns and they slowly started growing on me. Now that's my main sandwich bread.

I also like bagels and baguettes(crispy on the outside, chewy on the inside).

Excellent, a thread devoted to our kind!

Obviously I am inclined to say that the best bread is the one with the hole in the middle.

Graingerguy - do you usually buy your bagels from a bakery, deli or the frozen section?

:stupid: we usually get 7 or 12 grain bread. when i was a kid, i would only eat white, and now i only eat grain bread.

i also love sourdough. bread in general is yummy - we tend to get a lot of use out of our bread machine.

When I had a 3 hour layover at JFK recently, I got a sandwich from Au Bon Pain there and had them put it on their sundried tomato bread. It was very tasty.

Bread and Cabbage are two euphemisms for cash that I never really heard until I started watching Rescue Me. Maybe it's a New York thing?

How about "dough"? I imagine that's where the "bread" term came from.

Are you serious?

So what about "Cheddar" or "Bacon" or "Cream (Cash Rules everything around me)?

Maybe you should hang in the hood more often.. as you'd hear euphemisms like that more often. :D

Well, I tried the olive oil..good but it lacked something.

So I added balsamic vinegar..NASTY!! Are you sure about the vinegar thing?

Yea, that sounds like salad dressing!

For bread I use olive oil with some spices soaked in it- something like the typical Italian spice blend (oregano, basil, etc) with garlic powder and salt; maybe a little black pepper or hot pepper, and whatever else on the spice rack looks good. Then warm it in the microwave a bit to liven up the spices. Makes a great dipping sauce for Italian bread or a baguette. :munch:

You're going to have to get some good balsamic vinegar. But yes...Balsamic vinegar with olive oil is SO the way to go.

And bagel...

the only thing I can afford is the packaged kind and cheap as they come. :) But it's good anyway when it's toasted. :)

Also, put a little bit of finely ground pepper in it....that's good too.
