Be just bought a Nissan Altima Hybrid (great car) but the buying experience sucks. They put us in a room to finalize with a hard sell salesman. We thought we were just there to complete the deal, then this guy goes on pushing the $2350 extended warranty. We had no intentions of buying that but he pushed it for an hour and a half. The whole time that salesman was farting, loud farts. Try being cooped up with a farting car salesman, stinks literally.

:eek3:

WTF?

I would have called him out on it, then rolled right out the door. No chance someone that rude would be getting any of my coin...

He was probably hired to get you to out of there as soon as possible so you wouldn't have to deal with his odors.

What the heck? I call BS.

If not, then someone needs to do an undercover expose on this guy. It'd be the viral video of the year.

$2350? Jees, what kind of a warranty on it? 2 years ago I got the best 7/100 warranty they had for like $1050.

I was buying a used car a while back (really needed to because the transmission on our van was about shot). It wasn't a major deal: $2500 or $3000. But when we got to the end, the dealership had added $89 to the cost for their "paint protection". I said I didn't want it, the guy says "it's already on the car and every 6 months you can bring the car in for free and we'll reapply it", etc. (and what he isn't saying is that they'll probably charge $30 for a mandatory "pre-wash" before re-applying their spray-on wax). I should have gotten up and walked out (with my wife) and watch the guy back down.

Biological attacks? Send in the army. At least this time we have a credible witness.

:stupid:

Even the "Gold Package" warranty through Chrysler ($0 deductible 7 years 70,000 miles bumper to bumper) only cost like $1400.

If Nissan is charging THAT much, they are are bending some folks over.

I got sucked into the same kind of deal with the "security window etching". Pretty much they charged me an extra $200 for the etch marks and the insurance policy that came with it... and I didn't ask for it (but it was already on the vehicle when they aquired it from another dealer.)

Honestly, it kinda sucks that they add these "tack ons" to cars without the customer's approval.

I had the same sort of situation, but fortunately my dealer didn't put up much of a fight about me not wanting to pay for those stupid things. Let's see, it had $180 pinstripes (removed the following day), $80 'fabric protection', and $80 'door guards' (basically sticky strips of clear plastic). While I liked the door guards, I told them that I wouldn't pay for any of it, and they didn't put up a fight.

One thing that bugs me is the nearly impossible to remove decal thingy they put on the back of the car with their name/ logo on it. Free advertising for them. I don't mind the license plate frame or something non-permanent like that (I remove it immediately), but the friggin' logo thing royally pisses me off.

The one on the back of my used Jeep Cherokee boldly proclaims "Another Al Maroney Ford!"

Mineral spirits will get rid of the sticker without hurting your paint.

:agree:

Yeah, those stickers can be taken off.... don't let the dealerships fool ya.

If you don't feel comfortable enough doing it yourself... any decent "paint and body" shop can show you how to take it off without ruining the paint.

Just be glad that cars today don't have the dealer name stamped into the bumper like they used to do on old pickup trucks in the 70s... Now those "endorsements" would be alot harder to remove than the stickers. :D

I'm not sure what the heck is, but it's more than a sticker. It has a rough texture like etched glass. Almost like an epoxy paint sprayed on over a stencil. So far it's resisted every solvent I've thrown at it.

I hate that too - when I get a car I always tell the dealer not to put ANY stickers or decals on, or to take them off if they're already there. Then when I get home I also throw away the license plate frame they put on there. They're pretty accomodating about it.

And if I remember correctly, I paid about $1200 extra for my full coverage 7yr 70k (100k?) warranty on my Pontiac minivan.

i went to get a car w/my brother and they tried that bush-league crap with us. etching. warranty. interest rates getting jacked around. etc.

when we left the "closers" office we went to sign the paper and the stuff was still invoiced. we told him we're not paying for it and he did the old, "but they already started" bs. gee. that's too bad. we're not paying for it. and of course they hadn't really started it.

it was unbelievable how much crap they tried to pull. thankfully we knew what we were doing and literally laughed at them through a lot of the process.

There's the key when buying a car. BE INFORMED. If it's a new car, know MSRP, invoice, dealer rebate, etc... Also read up on all of the quasi-scams that they try to pull at the dealer.

It seems to me like there's 2 dealer responses to a well informed buyer: 1) This guys is a jerk. Get him out of here or 2) He's not going to fall for this stuff. Give him a decent price and get him out of here as quick as possible.

Last time I bought a car, I went to several dealers, and ended up at one of the #2's. They realized that the quicker they could get me out, the easier money it was. Got a great deal too.

How did I get hosed...

Other than the windows, I got the EXACT car I asked for and shaved almost $8K off of the sticker price up front. Pretty much it was a "limited edition" therefore only so many were in existence to start with, much less ones that had the exact features I wanted and were without the ones I didn't want to pay extra for.

You couldn't find another car exactly like it for a 300 mile radius from Indy.

Now how did I get hosed again? I'll give them their $200 for the windows... that's "chump change" in comparision to the overall deal.. plus I made them shave about $500 off the cost of their extended warranty. SO THERE!!!! PIMPS UP HOEZ DOWN!!! :D

Now THAT's PIMP.... bow down to the rings and know your role. :D

I got scammed with the etching thing as well. I have yet to find any etchings on any windows.

As far as the dealer badges, checking out car forums like (well, I use) bimmerfest.com or e46fanatics.com, and search for badge, debadging, etc. There are usually some sticky threads that tell you how to remove the sticky stuff. I don't remember how right now, and I'm so drowsy I can barely type.

People also use the techniques on BMWs to remove the "325i" or whatever logos. I can't imagine why, unless they like to convince people they have M3s or 330s or something.

I ended up doing my own vin etching. It was easy. I ordered a kit through http://www.vinshield.com/ but I know there are other vendors, too.
