View Full Version : Wii Frustrations

Anybody else getting a bit frustrated that the selection of Wii games are not great at all? I was pretty excited when I first got the system, and now I'm almost regretting getting it. There are barely any worthwhile games, and it doesn't look like there will be that many more to come this year. I'm kind of regretting not getting a xbox 360. I'm really considering selling the wii now, which sucks because I really didn't want to. The only game I'm really looking forward to is Super Mario Galaxy and Super Smash Brawl. Doesn't look like there will be any good shooters coming out anytime soon.

Argh, anybody else have any thoughts?:disa:

I totally agree. With my blockbuster online membership, I get 2 free game rentals a month. I'm actually having trouble finding 2 I really would like to play.

Also, it's looking like online gaming is going to be horribly frustrating. I've seen rumors of having to have a separate friend code for each game. Nintendo's anti-pedophile gaming system really needs some reworking.

I'm kind of disappointed at the game selection as well. I'm waiting for Super Smash Brawl and Metroid: Corruption to come out. The system makes a great party game...that much is for sure. But I don't have friends over that much and want some games to play on my own.

I was very excited about Zelda...it was a great game. But I've already beaten it.

I want to see some shooters (like Red Steel...but better) and some racing games. I know Excite truck is out there (not impressed with the steering) and NFS: Carbon (not interested).

I'd love to see an actual Excitebike remake (3D version) and a Star Wars game that utilizes the remote as a lightsaber.

Le sigh.

I'm not, but I got a 360 too. And the 360 was pretty light in the begining as well, and the PS3 is pretty light now. It's what happens with a new console. You got to be in it for the long haul.

And besides, paper mario is due in like 2 weeks or something.

So what games are coming out "in the long haul"? Sure there are a couple that perk my interest. Out of all the games that they've announced through mid '08, there are only like 3 games I would actually buy: and of those 3, only 1 that would provide lasting entertainment (the other 2 I would probably beat and never play again).

For me, the online gaming would be a huge appeal, but like Cubsfan said, there's been some negative rumors regarding that. Whether they are true or not, one thing for sure is that I haven't heard any confirmed positive news regarding the online multiplayer abilities.

Sure, the "party" appeal of it is great, but I was just hoping there'd be more than that. I mean, the system itself is fine: it's just vast selection of horrible games and very, very, very few quality titles.

like LPM said, its a new console (not even 6 full months old), like all new consoles there will be a dearth in games in the beginning.

give it time, more will come out. Especially now that its such a phenomenal hit, more companies will flock to it. You think that all those consoles selling so fast will not go unnoticed by the companies? Thats a LOT of people waiting to shell out good money to have some games in their Wii. It just went under the radar that the software people just didnt know what hit em when the Wii exploded. now theyre scrambling to port over their games to it.

if anything there is more of a disappointment with the PS3. Great graphics, sure, but the Wii is proof that great graphics doesnt usually translate to sheer fun and (gasp!) profit.

****************************

i tore myself off of gaming 7 years ago. Sitting in the dark hunched over the keyboards, or sitting in a couch with a console in your hand by yourself just did not appeal to me anymore. Its just become too... detaching.
sure you play online and have other people play with you there, but in the end, youre still by yourself.

I dunno, but for me the REAL LIVE social factor of the game is still the sh!t. no matter how many times boxing or bowling is played, theres just no end to the fun. Talking smack, verbal jabs IRL, even toasting drinks, even shots for games, it all increases the competitiveness of the simple games, its so ridiculous everyone doesnt care about looking weird swinging their arms in the air.

thats another thing i love about it - its become my light-duty work-out at home. i dont sit on the couch eating chips and drinking soda, or hunched over the keyboard, clicking away in the glow of the monitor - im standing and sweating!

besides, i dont play it so much that its lost its novelty on me.

but then again thats just me.

The majority of the time I play video games, I am usually playing with somebody else. The only game I play on my XBox is Halo 2...and that is only when I am playing with somebody else or on XBox Live.

I have Zelda for the Wii, and made it 1/3 of the way through the game before I stopped because I simply don't enjoy playing video games alone. I have since purchased Madden NFL and just received Tiger Woods Golf this past week. I love playing both games by myself because they have game types that lend itself to improving your team or player by setting individual milestones. The other great thing about the 2 games is that you can play multiplayer.

Wii Sports is a great time filler when you are trying to kill 30 minutes before you have to do something else, but it's certainly not a game you can play for hours at a time.

I am waiting for the online capabilities so I can start enjoying games with my friends back east, but in the meantime I can live with the games that are available.

I see video games as a form of entertainment, even if that means I never "beat" a game or "complete" all of the various goals. I have been playing World of Warcraft since it was released 2.5 years ago and while many people are bored of the same old crap and feeling like they have done everything they could, I am still enjoying doing the simplest of things like leveling a new character.

I guess what I am trying to say is if you're looking for video games that have a beginning and an end then new consoles probably aren't the way to go because there just isn't enough content to keep you happy. If you're looking for video games that keep you entertained from time to time then I honestly think that the Wii is a must-have because the gameplay is just so much different than what consoles were in the past. I'm a huge fan of change and the wii style of play is a change i'll welcome with open arms.

Play a previous gen game. There are many indespensible games on the NES, SNES, N64, and the Cube. I'm still working on Zelda. We can recommend some based on other games you like.

I like my Wii and am still finding the games interesting. I want to know more about Wii Music... that looked cool.. oh well. I am not a hard core gamer and my Wii does what I want it to do for me, entertain. I also game on my ds so life is good. and when I am bored there is always Star Craft :)

Good point. I got more than my money's worth out of Super Mario World and Pikmin 2.

Forgot to mention that I can't wait for a good, full featured baseball game. I don't see one anywhere on the release schedule though.

For me, these previous gen games are more just a novelty. Sure there are some good titles, but I definitely did not get the Wii for this. As for more good games coming out in the future due to the popularity of the Wii, I'm looking at the announced line-up and it is not impressive at all.

Don't get me wrong, I like the system itself, however I'm worried about being disappointed w/ the game selection and the multiplayer capabilities, which Nintendo has conveniently not been very informative about. Sure the weather channel and news channel are kind of cool for about an hour, but that's about it. I would just want a couple of those games that really leave a lasting impression: like super smash bros and 007 for gamecube, halo & halo 2 for xbox, marvel vs capcom 2 for dreamcast, etc. There definitely are none of those games out for the Wii right now and it doesn't seem like there will be for a very long time (if at all).

I guess people look for different things in a game system: looks like many people are pefectly happy w/ their choice in their Wii purchase. I think for my purposes, I may have bought the wrong system. I thought the Wii was a do-it-all machine that would have the group entertainment element, as well as providing fun games for your casual gamer. Right now, I'm seeing the Wii as just an evolved form of Gamecube, which I was desparately hoping it wasn't going to be. Gamecube never really had good titles. I'm afraid the Wii may follow in the same footsteps. I might trade mine in for a 360.

I'm waiting for Paper Mario, Prince of Persia , Super Mario Galaxy, and a few others. I could care less if they come out quickly or not. Wii Sports has good replay value.

I've found that solo Wii Sports (go ahead and make all the jokes you want!) is starting to lose its appeal to me. I'm a pro in all of the games that I like, and I've actually found that training is the part that has the most replay value.

Well I haven't played too much (with myself :disa: ) I mainly played Zelda on my own, and some Sonic. Other then that, it's all been with groups of people.

I noticed that too. I want a full baseball game to come out. I guess we just have to give it some time. Does Madden use the motion sensor part of the Wii to play? Tiger Woods golf too? I haven't played those too, but the Wii is so unique it may take a while for certain kinds of games to come out for it that can truly use it's abilities.

I think you are seriously missing out if you discount the old gen games. Not only are they quite good, they are also less expensive. Cutting edge graphics are overrated.

Might I recommend the some Cube games: the 2 Metroids (the reason I got back into nintendo and bought a game cube) and Windwaker (underrated IMHO). Those should keep you busy another 100 hrs.

Smash Bros. is a good multiplayer.

Both games use the motion sensor technology and both games come full blown with onscreen training and tutorials so you can figure out all of the movements that control your gameplay.

Tiger Woods PGA is a lot of fun even if you suck at it like me!

Well if you are disappointed in the Wii, I hear Best Buy is giving you $150 Credit towards Accessories or Games for a PS3 if you buy one.

I have found a solution for the uncertainty of the games for the Wii. I signed up for the blockbuster monthly subscription (2 at a time). Not only do I get those dvds, but I also get 1 free game rental each month (rental lasts for 13 days w/o getting charged). This is convenient to try out games that I would probably not want to buy, but seem interesting.

I picked up Paper Mario last time. This game has gotten amazing reviews and is very well made. However, I'm not a big fan of rpgs (i have no patience), and the excessive dialogue is not for me. If you do like rpgs and platforms, this is a really good blend of both. I would personally give this game an A- for what it is, but for my tastes, I would give this a C+.

Hopefully a cool shooter will come out soon. Next game I plan on renting is the Godfather.:)
