Matte. Too much reflection on the glossy screens.

Which reminds me - someone asked me yesterday if there is such a thing as an overlay to make a glossy screen less reflective? She bought a new laptop which she uses outdoors quite a bit & didn't realize it came with the glossy screen.

I was thinking maybe some sort of screen protector, like the ones for PDAs & touch screens that might make it less reflective? Anyone ever seen or tried such a thing?

I like glossy because it's much better to use for viewing movies, etc.

Interesting. Why is matte bad for movies? Do you lose contrast? I'm sure you don't lose resolution.

What if I use my laptop mostly for surfing the internet at cafes and outdoor spaces? Would matte be better in that case?

Matte would be better for outdoor use since glossy screens have more reflections.

glossy definitely.. it feels great to do post-prod video on a glossy screen... however my tablet is matte due to fingerprints

hmmm. i wonder what it is about glossy that makes it better for film and images. Does it just look clearer?

Just like in artwork... if you put a "glossy" cover versus the matte finish, it makes the colors look brighter.

I have some lithographs that use a glossy glass versus the matte finish. :D

I was told that glossy is better for outside as it reflects the light away from the screen allowing better viewing. The Matte finishes wash out in direct sunlight. That's just my understanding for outdoor use.

I just like it cause it makes the color sharper and good for image editing. With Matte the color isn't just the same.

Don't they have glossy ones that are made to be able to be viewed even outside in the light? I could have sworn they did, don't have time to research it right now though :(

Matte screen for me.

I was watching a movie on my cousin's HP laptop with a glossy screen while in a moving car... The glossy screen with its reflections gave me a massive headache.
