Hi, thanks for reading.

Problem: I use bittorrent, and my modem (note, NOT router) gets killed every 4 hours. I did research, and the common problem is that cheap modems crash because of the amount of P2P connections. Lowered it to 100 global connections but it still crashes. I read that using a bridge network bridge will help, but I'm having understanding the solution after having researched the topic.

Here is what I'm visualising: I connect my modem to the main computer using a wired connection. The main computer also has a wireless card, and I can use this to connect the main computer to all the other computers through the wireless router. Next, I will create the network bridge by bridging the wired modem connection to the wireless network. Now all computer will have internet access.

1. Will this work?
2. How in the h#ll does this relieve the modem from all the p2p connections?

Thanks.

What type of connection (cable/DSL), what speed is it, and what kind of modem (model/mfr)?

I've never heard of such a thing (bridging a connection to relieve modem traffic) - you'll still have the same number of hits on your modem whether it's bridged or not, but I dunno - stranger things have happened, I guess.

It's Time Warner Cable, speed test was around 6000/400, and the modem is unmarked, but the Mo # is 60194E. Google shows it might be an Ambit brand.

The link above takes to a post about it. It gives scant information on how to do it though. The 3rd and 8th posts suggest bridging is the solution for this common problem.

I dunno - you have a great connection, but I agree that it could be shady hardware.

That sounds like a pretty specific fix, so I'd recommend you start here:

Thanks, I looked at that post and found that I had already tried almost all of their suggestions on my own. However, the sixth bittorrent client I've tried seems to be working like a charm. Great download speed and no crashing of the modem yet. It's called Bitspirit, and I'm glad I found it.
