Got new monitor today. Shut down computer, plugged new monitor in, restart: nothing. Not even POST. Opened up case and LED status indicator on mobo is blinking. Translation: board failure or power supply issue.
I've only seen that happen once before: about two months ago when I first built the computer everything died while installing Windows. Mobo actually let out a puff of smoke and quit. Turned off and turned back on. No POST, indicator light was blinking. I didn't know what that meant at the time, but Asus tech support informed me. I replaced power supply and no resolution of issue, so the board went back. Installed replacement board and everything worked fine.
Until today. Same problem, though this time after two months of stable operation.
So now Asus is also on my sh|t list.
Now looking at this (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813121059) Intel board.

Honestly, I've had nothing to good experiences with Asus products.
Are you sure that your Power Supply isn't to blame for this? When was the last time you had it tested to make sure that it was putting out proper voltage? Is your PSU of a decent manufactuer?
Also, is there a chance that you have "bad power" in your house? Do you use a surge protector? UPS? How old is the wiring in your residence? Do you get power spikes often?
Honestly I think that there is more here than "Bad Asus products". Asus is generally a brand you can trust and if the exact same thing happend twice, I'd be suspect as to the cause.

Power supply is a 750W Silverstone ST75F (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817256009), power is running through a CyberPower CP900AVR (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16842102042) UPS. The UPS's power monitoring utility hadn't shown any spikes or anything the last time I checked it. The only anomaly I've noted is that the outlet voltage is typically a little low, at ~114V. None of the three Dells in the room have had any problems and those are only on power strips, no UPS.
Every time I've looked at the BIOS's status page all the voltages looked fine.
I'm pretty sure it's the board. :(
Kinda like the sceptre monitor I recently had problems with, the reviews at NewEgg are beginning to go sour- seems like a good number of people have issues with it as time goes on. It's an Asus P5W DH (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813131025)

Yep, that is my other alias. :D I really haven't used "Nap" in years except like here where it's been established.
I really do think it's the mobo but, as always, I could be wrong. I've had other minor problems with it. *sigh* What's the other possiblity, some kind of intermittent problem with the PS spiking? I'd like to think I know what I'm doing, but something like this comes along and I wanna pull my hair out.
Thanks for your input DF, past present and future.
