Most of upstate NY is required to stop serving alcohol at 2am. Erie county, where Buffalo is, stays open 'til 4. That stems back to when Buffalo was a booming industrial city so that second shifters had more time to get liquored up after a hard day of work. Since I've gotten used to Buffalo time, I've been out in other places and 2am seems to come damn early.

What time do they stop serving alcohol in your area?

I think last call is 1:00, except on Sunday, when you can't drink at all.

Officially, it is 2:00 here, but the beach area bars near me are supposed to shut down by 1:00 to keep it quieter for the neighbors.

Whats last call?

**CLUE** For those who tried to explain what was last call... it was meant to convey that there was no last call.

Whats last call?

Last chance to buy a drink for the night. They usually don't serve right up to closing time, else you wouldn't have any time to drink your drink. Bar tender will usually call "last call" 10 or 20 minutes before closing time.

Bars here in Binghamton have to stop serving at 3. Last call is at 2:30 that way people have enough time to belly up to the bar for one last drink. After 3, the registers shut down, bottles are closed up and no one is served...although, the bar patrons can stay in the bar as late as 3:45 to finish up their drinks and move on home. As you know, this is a big college town and they have this thing called the Pub crawl(pay one price, get a mug that you can drink with free in all the bars downtown till close)which attracts thousands of SUNY Binghamton Students...man, the city residents are not happy with it at all and they are trying to get the Chancellor from the college to put an end to it. I hate to say it but the students have really put out a bad name for themselves around here. Every weekend it's the same old story. Downtown gets jammed, extra police are called to walk the beat, people puke all over, leave garbage everywhere, and totally disrespect this area as best as they can before they graduate and move on..it's been like this for years.
When I lived in Elmira during my own college days-the sidewalks were rolled up at 1am which totally sucked.

Im not sure what it is in NYC. I think it may be 3am, but the bar I goto (or used to before it caught fire) closes whenever the bartender felt like it. So anywhere from 3am to 7am.

In NYC, its kinda different I'm pretty sure. Bars are required to be closed for like a 6 hour window or maybe a 4 hour window every day, but when that window is is up to the bar.

In NYC, it is illegal to serve alcohol after 4. I don't know if there is a law restricting how late bars can be open, but I think the assumption is that if the bar is open after 4, they are serving alcohol . . . so it raises red flags that I doubt the owner really would want to deal with.
