I got into a car accident today. First off, let me start by saying that no one was hurt and in the scheme of things, it was somewhat minor - f_cking annoying, but minor.

I had just pulled into a parking spot and staightened out my truck so there was over a foot on each side between the truck and the lines. So after I turned off the truck, took out the keys, and hung my placard, and checked that all was clear I opened my door. Just as I am turning to get out...with one foot in and one foot out, there was this huge crunching sound. This geezer ploughed into the freaking leading edge of my door.

My door is completely f_cked. The door will shut, but it does not seal anymore. I am afraid to find out the full extent of the damages because the hinges are no longer lined up properly.

He hit me with the right (passenger) side of his car. Completly split his bumper.

We exchanged information and I immediately called my insurance company. Then i called his insurance company. Now it appears its going to be a battle because he claims I opened the door into his car. Fortuantely, the physical evidence proves otherwise since it bent the leading edge of my door...something that can only occur if he ran into my open door. Either way, I am still pissed.

Geezer? in Boca? Surely you jest...

In all seriousness, I hope it is resolved in your favor quickly and expeditiously.

That REALLY sucks. Good luck getting it straightened out.

Geezer in FL ran through a stop sign and T-boned a friend of mine's S10 with his boat of a Cadillac several years ago. She was lucky to escape with only a broken foot and minor whiplash. Seems like that's a big problem down there. Friggin' old people, swallow your independance pride and stay off the roads. Respect your limitations. Grrr.

That happened to me once. I was YOUNG, in my teens. The guy's insurance wouldn't pay for my mom car saying I was at fault. He claimed the same thing as your geezer. My Dad was pissed.

Some people will just turn the whole situation upside down. Hopefully you get this situation resolved quickly.

:nono: to those people who never admits. Is it that hard to tell the truth!

thats why i always have a small digital camera with me at all times.

if you have one, take LOTS of pictures, and if it's capable, TAKE VIDEOS WITHIN MINUTES!

and maybe call the cops. they may not/will not help much, but at least they have a record and the bastard at fault wont be able to claim otherwise.

Call in the team of lawyers!

Oh yeah - no need. Call your wife!

:stupid:

That's why having a cell phone with camera is convenient.

In CA, cops are not going to show up at accident scenes unless someone gets hurt. You have to find your own witness.

Well I can just call in myself too. We took a ton of pictures with the digital camera in my phone...unfortuantely its only 1.3 megapixels, so its not that great. The good thing is that we have clear shots of where my car was and where he was in relation to my car/the spot etc. In the one picture you can see that he was virtually on the line.
I actually did call the cops, but they said there was no need to come since it was in a parking lot and we had exchanged information. My wife and I both have the unsettling feeling that we are going to need to fight this one out.

this being a parking lot may be the worst case . as parking lots here are like a-hole safe spots . the law works diffrently as parking lots are treated as priv. property . and your insurance company may just have to pick up your car repair . they are not treated the same as a puplic highway in michigan .
good luck and hope its turns out so he has to get stuck paying .

Lemme guess - Publix? I got clobbered a couple of years ago in Daytona Beach at the Publix but the lol (lil' ole lady) only nailed the trailer hitch. She did a number on her Delta 88, though. Sorry for your troubles. You know FL is a no-fault if he's contesting? Make your insurance fight or they'll fold(!).

Let me guess - in the Belair Plaza on A1A.

Yikes Markel - you got ESPN or something?! :) That's EXACTLY where I had my lil' bender. And all these years I thought my paranoia was unjustified....

:shifty: I know where you've been. I know what you did.... :heh:

Actually, I when I was growing up I lived one block from the southwest "back entrance" into that plaza. (Always preferred Publix to the Winn Dixie that was on the opposite side at the time.)
