I just took a look out there today and I saw that NewEgg, ZipZoomFly, and a few other stores have dropped the prices of the Core 2 Duo E6600 down to around $235 today.
SO TEMPTING.... but yet, i'm still not ready to plunk down the cash for a new motherboard, memory, and video card to go with it. /sigh.....

Ever since the Intel P4 and the AMD Sempron, I have totally lost what any names from both companies refer to.
So is this the best bang for the buck nowadays?

Heh - for 90% of the people out there, it's whatever they can get the cheapest. Todays processors are FAR more powerful than anyone needs for web surfing & office apps, so whatever they buy will work fine. Get that $399 special from Dell, bump up the RAM & you're good to go for the next 3 years.
I always cringe when I see someone laying down $1500 for a PC that will only ever be used to surf the internet.

This is so true. :heh:
But honestly, the only "pre packaged" PC I want is a notebook... if it is a desktop, I'm still gonna build it myself (but of course I do more with mine than just surf the internet or read e-mail.) :D

Frys was having a promotional sale of the E6600 for $200 shipped.
But the deal has since expired. So the price on this proc may go down further.

Read a bunch of reviews on Newegg. Most everyone loves it. They hate the stock fan; many use a Zalman. Great overclocker too.
