I didnt want to say it, but yeah, excellent minus the vista stuff, in reality its likely only a trial version, which means you'll still have to purchase it later, I didnt look at it yet tho.

I highly doubt that it is a "trial version":

Installed Operating System: Windows Vista Home Premium
No mention of a trial version. I think HP or CompUSA would be in deep doodoo if they tried to pull something like that.

Walmart pulled the same stuff with a less technically inclined family member of mine, though I think it was compaq or something, anyhow, those evil trial operating systems are floating around, are the parts for this laptop that cheap? I find it hard to believe that 650 bucks or so includes the obscene costs for vista hehe

just my 2c

I’m certain it’s a full version of Vista. I got a very similar HP Pavilion dv9000t for Christmas. It came with Windows XP Media Center with free upgrade to Vista Home Premium after it was released. When I loaded Vista I thought it was “kinda neat”. A FAR CRY from the WOW that Microsoft advertises. I paid $9.95 s&h for the media, which to me is about all the upgrade was worth. I’d NEVER pay $150 for the retail upgrade version of Home Premium. I qualify for the academic version of Home Premium (same product, different packaging) which can be had for under $70. It’s not worth $70 and I’ll be sticking with XP on my desktop.

Also, my trial version of Norton Internet Security expired before Vista shipped, so I purchased the Norton SystemWorks/Firewall bundle and installed it about a week before getting Vista. I then found out that no version of SystemWorks is compatible with Vista and there are no free compatibility updates available. If you want the utilities, then you have to buy Norton 360.

Vista also seems slower, so I just ordered 2 GB of Corsair DDR2-667. The only problem with the HP dv9xxx series is that the 1 GB of installed memory is two 512MB modules taking up the only two memory slots. If you want to upgrade memory, to basically have to discard the old memory, which is still less expensive than paying for 2 GB of installed memory if you had custom ordered the computer. Since the computer is not dual channel, I don’t see why they didn’t install a single 1 GB module.

Bottom line. I love my HP Pavilion dv9xxx series computer. Vista is mediocre at best.

Dag thats unusually good... and I actually need a Non-work laptop.

That might beatout my home pc... well cept for the Ram.. which I'd have to double..

and the drive has to be changed to a 7200 rpm...

but still.. 800 for that...

on the vista thing.. Whats the OEM of it cost.. 70 dollars.. probably cheaper for HP cause they buy in bulk.

According to CompUSA’s site, the $1,199.99 up-front is the Regular Retail Price. Still with free shipping.

The $350 rebate runs through 5/19/2007.
The $50 rebate runs through 6/30/2007.

So it looks like this deal will likely be available for two more weeks.

Maybe the big drop in memory prices has affected laptop prices. Save another $50.

Now $749.99 AR. Still with FREE shipping. Still through 5/19/2007.
