Hmmm… I wonder what you get with the retail version of a notebook hard drive vs. and OEM version. Since no cable is needed, my guess is four screws, a product manual, and a fancy box. You also get three years instead of one year on the warranty.

This is a very good price on a 100GB 7,200 rpm notebook drive. Most OEM versions are $110 to $120 delivered. Some of the newer notebooks can accommodate a second hard drive, like the HP Pavilion dv9207us posted yesterday. Unfortunately you may have to buy a second mounting bracket from HP for around $40.

I recently got an HP Pavilion dv9000t which can also hold two HD’s. It came with a 5,400 rpm drive. I want to switch the operating system and games to a 7,200 rpm drive. I’m VERY tempted to get this Hitachi. I may hold out for a Seagate Momentus 160GB, 7,200 rpm drive for $160 to $170 (but everyone seems to be out-of-stock), and just put the original 5,400 rpm HD in an external enclosure, which is cheaper than amounting bracket.
