so i got home from work a little early today, and i had high hopes of going christmas shopping. but there is NO WAY i'm going anywhere in a car for at least another hour, and i've already been home for an hour and a half!!

*wasting time is getting to be very boring*

btw, i don't drive at all to work, i take the subways :) and i just got my car last week, so i forgot about the whole traffic at rush hour thing.

Man, a car in NYC?? Are ya nuts? hehe . . . Must be a masochist! The only way I'd have a car in NYC is if I had a chauffeur and . . . ummmm . . . that's not exactly anywhere on the horizon! :)

i actually live in jersey city... & i have a wonderful 25 minute commute to work! (ha ha suckas that live in manhatten! i get to work faster then you!)

i live in a row house, and we are one of the lucky few in this area that has a driveway... so i figured Driveway? I must get a car!!

I wish we had a real transit system here in San Diego. Then we could reduce the number of idiots on the freeway. People without licences or insurance wouldn't be driving because they had an alternative. Drunks would have another way home. People that have no driving skills whatsoever wouldn't bother buying a car because they didn't need one. It would be beautiful, I could take a train to work and read a book instead of risking my life on the freeways.

good public transportation is really great. it is nice to know i can go out and party all night and not have a problem getting home.

and i think it de-stresses my life a little... i have about an hour a day where i don't have to think about anything (to and from work.) it is good vegetation time for the mind. when i used to work in the burbs, driving in traffic used to drive me nuts! grrr!

now i just stand on the train and listen to my walkman and think about nothing. really, my brain activity is almost non-exsistant. you don't know how many times i've almost missed my stop because i was day dreaming.

ahh, but it does has downfalls. you have to wait, sometimes for extended periods. its not unusual for me to have to wait for 4 trains to pass in the morning before i can actually get on one (they are soooooo crowded!) and then, the random delays you sometimes encounter can be very frustrating.

but all in all, its a great system to get around!

I think I'm spoiled with NYC's public transportation system . . . One of the most frustrating things I find when I travel is that very few places have 24 hour public transportation in ANY form . . . even VERY scaled down service!

I personally hate public transportation. I find it, for the most part to be gross, overcrowded, inefficient, and just all around horrid. Then again, it could just be my experiences have tainted me against it.

When I lived in Philly, I think I used the city buses for a total of 6 weeks when I was 13 to get downtown to work at our family store. That entire time, the bus was late, by varying degrees every day! It took me 4 switches to get to my destination, which was in the heart of the city! The bus usually had a weird smell, and the other people riding it were usually, what I call the unsavory type.

When I commuted to NYC everyday, I road Amtrak from 30th street station to Penn Station everyday, and then i would use the subways to get to Wall street. While the train was only late a couple of times, I consistently would end up missing the train I wanted, because the subway would get stuck, or some other fun thing would happen. For the most part the people were a bit better, but it stunk like urine and often there were wonderful goodies left around.

DOnt think I ever used any public transportation in Florida, if they had any. And San Diego, is wonderfully devoid of it. There is the coaster, trolleys, and some buses, but for the most part, they all have limited routes. Either way, I dont miss the public transportation, but everyone else always complains about it. I think its because they have no clue what it is really like.

Just my opinion.
