I recently purchased a Sony GPS-CS1KA
http://ec1.images-amazon.com/images/I/31nALoJ8yFL._AA280_.jpg

for the purpose of logging locations that can be matched with my camera's timestamps to easily map my photos.

However, I just came across this product: http://www.frwd.fi/index.php?71

It's 2x as expensive (300 Euros vs. 150 Euros), but it will interface with my cell phone via Bluetooth, it uses rechargeable batteries (a single AA battery will only last for about 1 day on the Sony model, so that could add up FAST), and I can use the FRWD unit for its intended purpose of tracking exercise.

Now, big question . . . can I use the FRWD product to match my photos with GPS data?

The Sony product simply records a "GPS Log File" that tracks time and location. It is exported to some software that came with the product, which then pairs it with timestamps on photos.

Are "GPS Log Files" a standardized file format for GPS data? Should the FRWD product also generate a "GPS Log File," and if so, would it makes sense that if I exported it to software like the Sony software package, it would be able to serve the same purpose?

Any thoughts? Is there really anything proprietary here that would prevent the functionality?

Thanks in advance . . .

Edit: OK, even more basic now . . . should I just think about getting any random standard GPS receiver with Bluetooth capability? It seems there are software packages around that can take the more standard outputs from GPS receivers of most brands and pair them with timestamps from photos . . . might offer me more functionality . . .
