a friend asked me to help set up the dish for his direct tv .well i need to know what location/angle to set the dish .he is using it for camping . he has service at his home .but i do not know the degree to set the dish at .were if your in michigan to aim the reciver at .i know there is a up and down angle the dish has to be set at .and should be aim to the east if memory serves me right .been years sense i had dish or direct tv . found trees were in the way when they were in bloom .so im paying Comcast big money for less channels . i do remember that dish network satellite sites lower then direct tvs satllite .
but what degree to set a dish at im lost with out the right info .
help if any installers out there or you know !

just check the website, Directtv has that information available.

he is using it for camping . he has service at his home He may be SOL depending on how far from home he is. Dish Network and Directv both use what are called spotbeams to determine your location. They both bind your home address to the correct spotbeam and your reciever won't work in a different spotbeam, unless you have a special account that allows access outside a particular spotbeam (this is big in the RV community).
But to answer your first question, you can use the Directv website as LPMiller said, or there should be a setup tool in the reciever's menus that allows you to enter the zip code you are in and it will give you the correct angles. Be sure your mounting post is perfectly perpendicular to the ground, or you will be wasting your time with any angles.
