NSS: I got my official raise letter of %15. Whee. I knew about it last week Tuesday afternoon. It was effective beginning of the month and only tricked down to me two weeks later.

S: The same day Tuesday noon time before I knew about the raise, I met with an upper mgmt to discuss the issues in my team. I basically threw my direct mgr under the bus as the reason our releases were late and continue to be late. I mean it's true but I was "meh" about it. So it was quite a surprise to me to hear about the raise and just then that sinking feeling like I just bit the hand that feeds me. Later that week I get called in about all the things I said to upper mgmt that now has reached the ear of my direct mgr. What can I say...awkwaaaaaard. I don't see generous raises coming my way or as easy from this point on.

Were you trying to get his job or something? Man, you're playing with fire there, going over his head, aren't you? :)

If your manager continues down the path he is, then your entire group will continue to look incompetent. Raise or not, I think it's a good thing you brought up the problems so they can be addressed...before they decide to replace your entire group.

Sometimes the ability to stand up for yourself against the line of fire from your direct boss is a good thing.

I've had a few occasions where my boss and I didn't see eye to eye and it took a few heated "discussions behind closed doors" to convince him. When he's wrong, he thanks me for standing my ground, apologizes for not recognizing things from the beginning, and we're cool. When *I'm* wrong, I just stew and count the days... ;)

j/k.

Congrats on the raise. 15% is nothing to be ashamed of.

Raise = Good.
Honesty about boss = Better.

It may be awkward, but if one person is hurting the team, it needs to be dealt with before the team fails. As long as other co-workers shared your point of view then I think you won't be seen as a rat or problem. Its if 9 people love him, and you say he's lazy... then it can be dangerous.
