This is nothing but a rant, I need to vent.

I've been trying to catch up with my boss for about a week now to discuss several things related to the project I'm working on finishing up. She's always either in a meeting or on the phone or something or another. Saw her in the hallway yesterday and conversation went something like this.

Me: "y'know, I'd really like to catch up with you sometime soon, will you have any spare time tomorrow? I just need like 10 minutes."

Boss: "Well, hmm.. I've got this and that and this other thing, but I should have some time in the afternoon. Can you send me an email and I'll get back to you with a time?"

Me: "Sure, I'll do that, thanks."

So yesterday I sent her the requested email: "hey, just wondering when you'll be free tomorrow for a brief chat, please let me know when's good."

Earlier this morning I saw her chatting/ BSing with some people in the office down the hall. Just walked by again like 30 minutes later and she's still there, gossiping/ BSing. Still no reply to my email. Apparently she's too busy to even reply and tell me when she won't be busy. But apparently she has at least a half an hour to spare BSing with other people, but doesn't have 10 minutes to talk with me about some critical issues that've needed to be addressed for at least a week. My patience is reaching its limits.

On the plus side, the project is officially over with on June 15th and I'm leaving here to find something better. Buffalo's job market sucks, so I'm looking to move back to the Syracuse area at the end of June. All of my family and most of my friends are there, and the job market seems much healthier. I'm thinkin' a couple years in Syracuse to get my financial legs under me (pay off some debts, etc), then move out of state. I'm fed up with NY but am not ready for a big move yet.

That sucks when someone just can't make the time to meet with you, but they have plenty of time to screw around.

I USUALLY get around it by just scheduling a meeting with them (if your mail system supports it). They'll either accept or propose a new time. But if I'm REALLY getting the brush off, they'll just decline it.

copy her boss on the meeting request.....that usually gets their attention real quick.....put in the request the details or agenda for the meeting....

this way if she blows you off - her boss can see that as well....

Yea, that's a great idea and I would resort to that eventually. Unfortunately my boss doesn't really have a boss... it's a small project (~10 people) and she's the head honcho.

Turns out she emailed me right after I got done venting here, we chatted as necessary a few hours later, cleared up all my questions/ issues.

My last day is the 15th and there isn't more than a couple days worth of work left for me to do. So it looks like for the next 3 weeks I'll be arriving late, leaving early, and probably killing time here at G|A for a good portion of the time in between.

It'll give me time to send out a few more resumes and enjoy the beautiful weather. Good news is that I have over 5 weeks of vacation pay coming my way, so essentially won't be missing a paycheck through the end of July.

Sorry, I guess this turned into a "changing jobs" thread. :heh:
