I haven't seen this posted before, but it seems a great deal to me. Staples B&M stores in Columbus yesterday advertised the Maxtor 40gig 7200 rpm drive for $99.99. No price match or other contortions necessary. Get the ATA100 controller card to boot for a full purcjase price refund on the card.
The store on Kenney Road here had about 25 drives piled up.
Last night.
They also had a Delta 12X DVD dive for $49, and a Sony 8X CDRW for $99.
All of these seemed super deals to me. The ad had no dates on it. These prices do not show on Staples.com

If you feel like it, try to pricematch 1-800-3STAPLE with the Columbus, OH store. They allow up to 3 of each item in pricematch.
Worked for me! And along with a $30 off coupon and a free TV, here comes Christmas :)

Does anyone have a SKU for that Sony CDRW drive??? I can't seem to find it online, and when I called to match, they couldn't find it either.
TIA

It works in Pennsylvania
The store in Ohio is on Hamilton road, 614 - 575 - 2801
They do have all these items, but Staples.com does not carry Sony CDRW.
They matched the HDD however. Cool! And with the coupon # 90690 - 25 off 75 it comes to a 75 buckaroos shipped to my doorstep. I am getting fat and lazy

Just made this order using the 800 number. When I used the 906 coupon, the lady said, "Jeez, lots of people are doing this. We'll give it to you this time, but we're looking into it." Still $75 delivered to my door tuesday! Wow, is this a great forum or what?

I just got off the phone with a CSR (9:04pm) and she said because the Ohio store on Hamilton Rd was closed (after 9pm)she couldn't process the order for $99.99 without a price check with that store. So she put my order on hold until she can call them saturday morning to verify it. Does this seem right ? Or should I just call back and talk to another CSR ?

The SKU # is 443940.. I visted a store in Santa Ana California and their price was $179.. The manager of the store didn't know anything about the $99 price and wanted to know if I was looking for a "reader"... I told him "no, I'm looking for the writer".. Anyway, he didn't know anything about it.
I wanted to check a Torrance CA store, but didn't get a chance before they closed..

Darnit! They said I needed to live within 30 miles of Columbus to pricematch it! What the heck? The CSR said because I lived in Texas it was too far. Anybody else have problems pricematching it from far away?

Yeah, those sonsofbitches said I needed to live in the same state to pricematch! I asked if this was a change in policy, the manager said "uh..yeah about 2 weeks ago" fukin liers.
macroman
12-16-2000, 10:36 AM
there is no such policy..
http://www.staples.com/help/default.asp?area=protection
let them bozos know that they are threading on thin ice if they are constantly making up 'new policies' that are not stated in their catalog or web site..
Sonicboom
12-16-2000, 10:52 AM
hah! I called them again and asked about it, I told them it wasn't written on the online pricematch policy and they said "uhhh... our full policy is not listed" what a bunch of bs.
macroman
12-16-2000, 11:30 AM
one of those 'new policies' that is not listed in their catalog or web site...how convenient an excuse..
i can understand if staples would not pricematch an item from another store (like office depot) but not to pricematch one of their own stores and use that excuse about you not living in ohio is just plain silly!
from my own past experience i was able to pricematch some items from stores that were not in my state, so that by itself shows that staples may be digging a hole if they keep using 'stores must be in your own state to pricematch, bla bla'..(not a legalese person, but i have seen those court cases on tv which shows past actions and then comparing them to present actions, etc)
first they use 'the item is not in stock at that other store' (they can't use this excuse cause the staples stores in ohio have them in stock), so they are using this new one..
oh boy..what next? no comprendo english?

Well I just got the same story, price match has to be a store in the same state your having it shipped to. Being that I am out of state - no price match. So my "local" stores have it for $179.99 plus tax. Just as a side note, the ones at my local store have 45gig drives in the 40 gig box with a note " 5gigs FREE! " - LOL For $150.00 I'll get the IBM 45gig model from Onvia.com. No Shipping, no tax.

I worked for Staples about 4 years ago and thier policy at that time was the store had to be within 30 miles and have it in stock. They were also very picky about the type of store (ie no clubs like Sams). Just though I would put in my 2 cents.

To todd5813
Even if this is one of their OWN stores? It still has to be within 30 miles?

I hurriedly dashed off this post Friday as I was going to work Friday and haven't been back online since. Sorry if I left out any critical info, I didn't realize this ad only appeared in the Columbus (Ohio) area. Anyhow, here are the items in question FWIW:
Delta internal 12X DVD - sku 445573
Maxtor 40gig 7200 rpm - sku 428386
Sony CD-RW 8x/4x/32x - sku 443940

hmmm..well, looking at this week's staples flyer, i can see in big words on the back page..
STAPLES WILL NOT BE UNDERSOLD
if you find a lower price, anywhere, on a new identical item now or within 14 days of your purchase just show us the price and we will match it..
this was pretty much the policy back then too as their business was primarily b&m & phone orders, so pricematching other office supply stores was their gig back then..(no matter the location, i know, cause i used to pricematch a lot of inkjet carts with viking & reliable office products)..

They sent the 45 GB Drives (the ones with the "extra" 5GB), so they ended up being 45GB 7200rpm drives for $99 ea., and along with the 3 DVD Drives and the free TV, WOOHOO. As you can tell, I maxed out the number of items I can pricematch at once.
I hope some other people got in on this deal also -- before Staples started altering policy.

My 2 orders got cancelled :-(
Both my and my brother's orders for the 40G drive
were canceled today. Operation called us and notified
us that they don't stock the drive anymore so they must
cancel the order :-)
Too bad, any more disk deal?

Haha I got a even better deal! After calling them over and over trying to get the pricematch to work, I decided just to order the thing for their regular price and use a $40 off coupon. So I proceeded to call them and place an order and used the free tv coupon. My total was 151.55 with a free tv. So today I get my invoice/receipt and it seems that they not only gave me a free tv, but took off an additional $69.95 (price of tv) off. So my total comes down to 75.78 tax included and a free tv!

The Staples near me had never heard about that deal. I then checked the sku against the one they had there and had them look it up, it came up as teh $179.00 one. Well, such is life. It would have been nice though.

The manager at Staples gave me the run around, but I knew him from when I applied for a job. Eventually I got him to call the staples.com 800 number and verfiy I wasn't an idiot. I wanted 2 Maxtors, but he would only sell me one. I'm happy :)

And I already sent in for the rebates on Sony CDRW and ATA/ 100 card.
