Growing Artichokes

I’m not a gardener, not by any stretch of the imagination, but I want to grow something and I figure I should start with something I *really* like so that the plant itself would provide motivation.

Artichokes are something I LOVE and the bushes seem like they’d be easy enough to grow. Unfortunately I can’t find any help online. Or maybe I’m not searching well.

If anyone is a gardener (not of like flowers and stuff) and can help me out or give me some advice I’d appreciate it.

I live in San Diego, CA so we have pretty temperate weather all year.

If anyone out there with a green thumb have hints/tips to share, though, please do so. I'm trying to get my purple thumb to be a green one, too.
