I am currently a student. I'm looking for the cheapest way to purchase a Macbook Pro. Is there any online stores that will let me to take advantage of the student discount and simultaneously not charge tax or shipping?

Apple.com if you don't live in a state with an Apple store...
Or if you live in Oregon which has no sales tax.
It's usually hard to get the student discount since it's a direct from Apple discount. You could try your university book store and see if they don't charge tax.

Okay... best deal for macbook is probably UCLA student and better for staff. No where else have I found prices so low. But that's if you're at UCLA. Another place I would recommend is craigslist. If you do buy in craigslist, make sure you buy one with warranty and you can always purchase the Apple Care extended afterwards. Last place to go is at your school... some schools come with a package - it's worth all that because it comes with software and school warranty. Some schools get 5 yr warranty (I think the school might have to purchase it for you though)

Buy Macbook pro ($1867 or so)
Get free iPod Nano ($200)
Get free printer ($100)
Sell Nano for $150
Sell Printer for $30
Total:
$1867
$200
$100
$130 (Tax)
------
$2297
$2297
$200 (Nano Rebate)
$100 (Printer Rebate)
$150 (Nano Sale)
$30 (Printer Sale)
-----
$1817
Of course, this assumes that you don't want the Nano or printer. Just an idea anyway.

Yeah cubsfan, I was totally thinking about doing that. I really don't need an ipod right now and I could probably get by without a printer either. Is the $1867 you mentioned the price after student discount?

I think that's the price I paid, but I upgraded the hard drive. Looks like the base price is $1799. I did this same thing, but kept the printer. For the $30, I figured the printer was worth keeping.

did you get it at an actual B&M apple store? I'm looking at our schools dedicated online apple store page and they don't seem to offer the free printer. They do, however, offer an additional $100 off, so it's still a decent deal.

I got it off the Apple web site. Sounds like the extra $100 off is a better deal to me.

Cool Thanks. I'm gonna check the B&M Apple Store tomorrow and if the final price is similar, I'm just gonna buy it there. I don't wanna deal with shipping. I'm never at home these days and I feel more comroftable bringing it home myself than in the hands of UPS.
