There is a guy who attends most of the Karaoke events I go to. He is one of the worst singers..EVER!! He is so off key that you want to scream when he sings.

Everyone knows it but are afraid to tell him what they really think because they don't want to hurt his feelings. So week after week, month after month we have to endure his blood curdling attempts at singing.

Well, lately, he has been criticizing other singers, who are ten times better than him. Make that a hundred times!

A few times he came over to me and suggested a method of making a song I sing sound better. I said "Oh, OK Bobbie I will remember that" and I let it go.

A week ago he did a song which I have been singing lately by the Cornelius Brothers. Afterwards, he came over and asked me if I had a certain CD. I told him I might and to call me the next day.

He then commented that he did that song correctly like the original. He said that I sing it too smooth and that he did it "rough" the way it is supposed to sound.

Well, he pressed my button!! I told him that I at least sing it on key. He said that it was his first time. I said that no matter how many times he sings it that he will never get it right! And that when I sing it people will applaud and when he sings it that people will laugh.

So he said he was just warning me how to sing it correctly.
Since it didn't sink in, I told him he was one of the worst singers EVER!!

I definitely over reacted, but I couldn't take any more of his self delusion. He honestly believes he is a great singer and that everyone else has a problem.

So now he is angry with me. Lst night I heard him make snide comments about me. And as usual, he sang a few songs and he still stinks.

I was going to apologize to him but I don't know what to apologize for. And now it's escalating.

What kind of snide comments?

"Do you know what he had the nerve to tell me? That I sing off key! I know! I couldn't believe it myself! He is so full of it!"

You would think that once someone said it, other people might warm up to the idea of telling him the same.

But, I wouldn't worry about apologizing. If he is hanging with the same people you do, carry on. They know you and what/who you are. Be the bigger person and ignore him.

Seriously, just ignore him. Who cares if he's badmouthing you. The people that matter won't care what he says and the people that do care or do believe him don't matter.

suppressed feelings are supposed to explode,
And thats what happened.
If apologizing is going to make you a better person or make you feel good or if he is in one of your close circle, then why not.. what the hell.
Otherwise, no point.

no point in appolgizinghe will just take it as a victory and it will lead to furhter more heated arguments after you give him his "in"
just let it go and itll blow over

if you really want to slam on this guy have your little group have a discussion while he is singing show him your obviously not interested or entertained

as for karoke goes i realize that i am the wrost singer ever <prob worse then this guy> but i still do it from time to time cuase i have friend who do it and i dont mind making an @$$ out of my self in front of a group

Pretty much, if you aren't in my close circle of friends (or I know you're just starting out with karaoke) then I won't criticize you. Karaoke isn't about "who sings the best" or "who sounds like the original recording" -- it's all about having fun. Respect goes a long way when it comes to karaoke, and it seems this person needs to understand that. Quit trying to criticize others, or else you'll get the same treatment (which is what you did).

(As for my friends and I, we've all agreed to give constructive feedback to each other.)

i have a family member who is really a bad singer . and he has a wife from Brazil. anyway he thinks he great and i want to puck every time he sings .and you should hear how bad the wife sings when she trys to sing a song that is normally song by a american singer . you just want to runand hide with her accent . and my sister inlaw keeps telling them how great they sound . and it's not just me who feels this way .others have said it.i will say they can play musical instrument very well, but he and her feel they are the band leads so they should also be the lead vocals :(

UPDATE:

He has been caring for his aging parents for many years. He actually quit his job and does it full time.

Well, his father passed away a week ago. Last Sunday, I went up to him at Karaoke and told him I felt bad about his father . I also went to the viewing Friday and talked with him.

I feel better now.

Nice when tense situations end on a better note.

No pun intended.

Sounds like laying off the rootbeer might solve more than one problem (http://www.gotapex.com/the-softer-side-of-got-apex/159066-ew-i-have-a-gut.html). :heh:
