I naturally have thick wavy (somewhat nappyish) hair. I always wanted straight hair (since I was little), but never got the nerve (or the cash) to do it.

Today that changed.

My salary essentially doubled, My bills are paid off.. so as a treat, I went to the hair salon in Long Island (there are many, the one in rosevelt maul), and asked the woman if she could straighten my hair.

Now my hair is NOT long, maybe about 2 and 1/2 inches long. I've researched, read books on it, reviewed articles.. but never actually just took the freaking jump.

Now if you ever had a plaster mold made out of your face.. this is essentially the same thing, except its your hair.. and they keep asking whether it burns instead of whether you can breathe.

12 minutes later, 3 rounds of neutralizer, and my hair actually has body now.

I walked through the mall literally floating on air (and touching my hair). I even got some nice looks too..

I love my new hair...

Is this the first step in going "metro" now that standard of living is progressing forward?

Sounds nice. I'm glad you are happy with your new hair and getting looks. :) But i agree that it would be cool to get a before and after picture.
or as they say in the crude IRC world.
"Pics or it didn't happen!"

Only if your name starts with "N" and ends with "ija".

Manscape.

Or in my case, I like to employ a Total War policy on my pubes.

Either a dude and he pulled a Michael Jackson, or a female not of the heterosexual persuasion. :)

... I'm a guy...

Damn is it that unusual for a guy to actually go to a salon?!?

Manscaping. Always a good thing. We haven't had a manscaping thread in a while.

Just for the record, I comb through every once in a while to ensure that nothing gets knotted up.

Sorry if I offended. Was just trying to help clear for MrGreg. And no I guess it's not unusual for a guy to go to a salon, just unusual to have certain services performed there that are usually done to women, coloring, highlighting, perms, and any hair alterations, save for haircuts, including straitening. But that's just my opinion. Again sorry if I offend. :)

... ok something a bit bizarre happened.

about 4 days have gone by.. and my hair.. just went back to the way it was..

I had 4 good days of manageable hair.. and then this.

.. I know almost nothing about this process.. but was told it lasts for about 2 or so months.

Any info on this, especially from people who go to get this done?

I've heard there are many ways to straighten your hair and some are more permanent than others. I'm guessing you used one of the lesser, especially considering it was finished in just 12 minutes. I've seen ads at the place I get my hair cut for this process called "Magic Straight" that was developed in Japan or something. It's supposed to be amazing and permanent. But since you're hair is only 2.5 inches long, you probably don't want to spend too much time/money on it anyway, since it'll grow right out again.

4 days is a lot less than 2 months. I'd go back and say "WTF?!?!". IMO you should at least get your money back.
