Japanese biker fails to notice missing leg
TOKYO, Japan (Reuters) -- A Japanese biker failed to notice his leg had been severed below the knee when he hit a safety barrier, and rode on for 2 km (1.2 miles), leaving a friend to pick up the missing limb.
The 54-year-old office worker was out on his motorcycle with a group of friends in the city of Hamamatsu, west of Tokyo, on Monday, when he was unable to negotiate a curve in the road and bumped into the central barrier, the Mainichi Shimbun said.
He felt excruciating pain, but did not notice that his right leg was missing until he stopped at the next junction, the paper quoted local police as saying.
The man and his leg were taken to hospital, but the limb had been crushed in the collision, the paper said.
I can't imagine this is the whole story. He must have been under the influence of something.

Isn't there a major artery that runs down the leg? Loss of blood?

that would be the femoural artery
all dependss on how he lost it other things could have come into play, like if his leg was crushed it may have been pincher shut

Heck....at least he now knows that he can ride a motorcycle with only one leg...looks like he won't be missing out on that after he gets out of the hospital.

He had a friend behind him... so he had to be cool and play it off like nothing happened.
When I was a kid I broke my damn collarbone when I crashed my bicycle, but didn't even acknowledge it. My friends were watching!

Right leg, left leg... same difference. :P
But, incidently, you are right, I don't ride. YET. Just recently got my learner's permit. (woo hoo!)

Actually, I heard he didn't notice it until he was on the last leg.

More likely retracted and spasmed. Probably was bleeding like hell, but was just lucky - if some luck can come of this.

Maybe if someone had picked the leg up off the road and made a keychain from it... that def woulda been lucky.
