So I'm not a big gamer, but various specualtions and anticipations for this game seem to be occupying a major portion of the talk around game/tech news sites. I've read some things about the revolutionary gameplay that it's supposed to feature. I'm curious. Who's looking forward to this?

I don't understand the hype. I've played the demo and been following the game for a while now. The graphics aren't all that great. They're reminiscent of cheesy graphics from the late 90s - fat bevels, chunky roundedness. The only difference is now the hardware can render them in higher resolutions. Many people are talking about the water effects but I saw several places where there were obvious seams in the textures - not to mention other games have done water effects as good or better.

The best thing going for it is the "feel" of the game. It's done a good job of immersing the player into a fun, unique world.

I'll probably pick the game up but I don't think it deserves the perfect 10.0 scores it has been receiving.

A friend on another board is a game reviewer and has had this game for a while. He's crazy about it. Says that if there's any game that makes you want to buy a 360 this is it. He raves and raves on it.

I d/l'ed the demo last week and will be picking it up this week. IMHO, the storyline and atmosphere are top-notch. The AI seems to be really good as well. This is one of the better games to finally make it's way to the consoles this year.

It's hard to describe it with words, but it's a wonderful combination of gameplay, graphics, environment, and storytelling. I originally dismissed it because I'm not a FPS fan or a horror genre fan, but my friend made me play the demo and I was shocked at how much I liked it.

I don't think it's overhyped at all (that honor goes to Halo 3). I just think it's one of the best games out there.

I'd love to try the demo but I think my machine would have a hard time keeping up with the req's.

Is your Xbox 360 more pathetic than mine? mine doesn't even have a working HD. :(

Hehe no seriously is it coming out for PC cause i thought it was just 360.

I think they said a PC demo would be out sometime in August- near the time of the game release. It was not ready for a simultaneus release with the XBox demo.

So anyone pick up their copy for the 360 yet? I'm hoping there will be some available at Circuit City on the way home...

Do you need a shader model 3.0 video card? I have a Radeon X800XL which is not 3.0. I will find out in a while. Downloading now.
1.8 GB for a demo. The full game requires 8gb. That is getting big.

Update: After about an hour and a half to download and install it, it does require shader 3.0. Too bad. The graphics on the intro looked pretty neat. It opens with me in the water. I can see flames but cannot tell much else or figure out where to go. I uninstalled it due to the graphics card issues.

Installed it & tried it out - it's nice... graphics are very well done. Sucks that you can't save in demo mode, tho.

Anyone know if this is going to be offered as a muliplayer FPS?

Go buy it now!!!

It's one of the best games I have ever played.. it was hard to pry myself away last night.

If you have an awesome computer, get the PC version - otherwise, the XB360 is pretty darn good too. Fry's B&M has it for $49.99.

Jeff: Not sure about the PC version, but the back of the XB360 version made no mention of multiplayer, but the instructions said otherwise. I haven't had the chance to check.

The 360 version doesn't have any multiplayer as I see it. The start menu lets you start a game, load a game, or change options.

I thought all 360 games were supposed to have some sort of online gimmick even if it is something stupid. This game seems to have nothing.

My son, who is 10, saw it on G4 and said to buy it because "it looks cool".

Need you anymore reason to go get it?

This game is AWESOME. I played it most of yesterday. It's like an adventure mystery shooter with puzzle aspects. The story is top notch. Makes you want to keep playing. Buy it. Seriously.

I watched the trailers and watched the demo and i want to get it. The story is really interesting to me, and the weapons and game play are different. You have weapons that can work differently depending on your environment. An electro bolt that you can shock groups of people standing in water with. and the ability to move things like jedi mind tricks so you can move your traps and weapons.
So i think its cool. i was sold on the weapons system when they froze a bad guy and then blew him into little pieces with a gun.
The story seems nifty and i think i'll enjoy it. Is it the best game ever? who knows. BUt i will enjoy all aspects of it and thats pretty good.
