When I was in my teens, twenties and thirties. vivid ideas would spontaneously flow through my brain. Anything from all art forms, including music, photographs, fine art, scientific ideas, political and religious ramblings. Even jokes.

I use to see things that people would dream up and would think " Yeh, i already thought of that" or "I know of a better method or something more original".

As I get older, I am somewhat disappointed that these wild thoughts rarely are entertained in my brain. I don't know if it's a degeneration of the brain as I age or it is just filtering out a lot of nonsense by maturity. It could just be an overload of information which has evolved through the mass media in the past twenty years. I am not sure.

In either case I do miss this type of creativity.

Just by the off-chance, were any of these 'vivid ideas' chemically induced?

Well i think its a lot of maturity and some degeneration. Kids will think more creatively about solutions to impossible puzzles. The older you get the more you look for the in the box solution. If it doesn't make sense, you dismiss it. You have too much going on in your world to turn a puzzle sideways to see the answer. Kids know how to bend the rules, grown ups see the rules in black and white.
