View Full Version : S: The reason for the sig change.

chrissy
09-20-2007, 06:08 PM
As you have noticed, I changed my sig.

I had the bouncing boobie girl in my sig with my link to the 3 day walk.

It's been a rough summer. Between mom having two eye operations, my dad and his prostate, Donnie being gone, my MIL having her breakdown and tons of little things (and a couple bigger issues) just adding up here at home, I didn't have time to dedicate to fundraising like I should have.

With 50 days until the walk, I have only raised $260 of the $2200 that I needed to raise. My mom had said she would help collect from friends and family back home and that fell through. My MIL had said she would help up north, and that fell through also. It's not their fault, it's mine. I wish I could write a check and finish what I started because I know what I will be missing and I know the work that this organization does.

I dunno if I will try again. In my heart I want to. But I don't know if I will get the courage back up to try again.

I feel like a quitter. :(

Aww hon, give yourself a break! You're raising 3 kids on your own right now, dealing with health & family stuff, worrying about a hubby overseas, and stress like money and moving. No one could blame you! :(

Do they not allow people who haven't raised a set amount to even participate??

chrissy
09-21-2007, 08:33 AM
No, Prngr, they don't. But they will set it up in 4 payments if you want to participate and haven't reached your goal.

If I was a couple hundred shy, I might have went that route. But I can't, I can't afford to pay out $500 a month for four months to get the money for them.

I know crap is happening in my life, but it's crap that happens to a lot of people. Maybe not in the span of 3 months, but it happens. It's just excuses for me. I could have done it if I dedicated more time, pestered more than I did (I hate pushy).

I was talking to my mom the other day. She was sorry she couldn't help me like we had planned. I wasn't asking a lot of money from people, I know 100 people that can afford $20 and that was my plan of attack. Get 100 people to donate $20. Mom said $20 was too much. I broke it down again for her, in Marissa, there is just under 3000 people living there. I know most of those faces, if they gave 50 cents, I could walk.

For me right now, in my mind, it's another failure. It's something that sounded good, felt good, but I failed to execute it properly. One more thing I have screwed up to add to the other screw ups and things I can't control right now. I am starting to feel like Midas.

chrissy, If I could afford I would send you a check. Maybe you can do next year and I will sign up for a donation for you. I can afford the $20 and a little more if needed. Sorry I can't do more.

Ok, there is no way that people on G|A can't help out. People have donated to Cheapie's fundraisers. I apoligize for not helping out before. I have sigs shut off because they potentially could be work UNsafe, so I never saw yours. Until the last week or two I have been too busy to spend much time here, so I could have missed a thread you started to help you in the fundraising.

How long until the walk?

SKinAZ
09-21-2007, 11:47 AM
... DO NOT feel like a loser Chrissy. You're a strong woman that is doing above and beyond for herself and her family. It's a goal that you can set again for next year and make it that time!

In order to participant in the 60-mile walk, walkers agree to raise a minimum of $2,200 for the Breast Cancer 3-Day, benefiting Susan G. Komen for the Cure and the National Philanthropic Trust Breast Cancer Fund. Please note that registration fees and all donations are non-refundable and non-transferable.

The San Diego Breast Cancer 3-Day will begin with Opening Ceremonies at the Del Mar Fairgrounds on November 9th, 6:30 am, and conclude with Closing Ceremonies at Petco Park in San Diego on November 11th at 4:00 pm.

That does suck Chrissy!

I just checked your 3-Day page and it seems a bit insurmountable at this point, since it’s only 49 days until the San Diego Breast Cancer 3-Day. https://www.kintera.org/faf/donorReg/donorPledge.asp?ievent=202297&supId=137779435

Insurmountable? Insurmountable would be only having 2 hours left. It is VERY possible to achieve this goal but WE need to help her. How about it fellow G|A'ers? There is a thread in the Off-topic forum discussing why we come here and this is why. Let's help Chrissy out!

Chrissy - is the link above the link to your fundraising?

If so, nobody has an excuse as to why they could not donate. You can hop over to that link and donate by CC, debit card, or online check.

$2200 is not an insurmountable goal in 49 days. That is under $43/day in donations (taking into account she already has $110 raised on there).

Guys you don't know what that would mean to me and thousands of others. For me, on a personal level, it would just be the "wow" experience that I would remember for always (up there with the birth of my kids), knowing that I can walk for hundreds of women that cannot. And to help Komen who in turns helps so many women and families!

Do you really think I still have time?

Do you have a blog or something? Time to start doing a lot of advertising of your story, and your desire to do the walk...

Jenny put a link on her site. That was the extent of my advertising besides my signature. I was relying on word of mouth and friends and family.

I also posted this info in the "What's so great about this place anyways?" thread in the Off Topic forum. I hope that having the info in a couple of forums might snag some of the G|A'ers that don't venture in to the S/NSS forum.

Is anyone here a regular in the Entertainment, Music, & Sports forum? This could be considered a sports item too, so maybe someone could add a link to Chrissy's 3-Day page on their next post in that forum.

So, This weekend is Camporee (GS camp), Audrey is going, I am not. So, going to get my stuff together and have a yardsale. We did this last year for Ellen and Michelle and raised over $400... Dunno If I will have it all together by Saturday. Prob not. It takes up most of the garage. Seriously. Next weekend, is Volleyball something for Audie (again GS) and I have to go to that one. That leaves the 13th or the 20th.

Talked to Kelly last night. She was going to watch my kids. She can't now (But she is going to help with the yardsale) so I have to get my inlaws to come down and stay with them. They said just let them know.

k
Things might be coming together.

chrissy
09-30-2007, 09:50 PM
Okay, Yardsale is set for Saturday - OMG do I have a bunch of stuff to sell! And I have had people give me more to sell too.

My friend Kelly is going to beg for money at work for me too. She is also helping me with my yardsale - We did Michelle and Ellen's last year so we are hoping to do well again.

She also helped me break in my new walking shoes this weekend... Did rather well :) Lots of miles walked and lots of work done. Lots of work left to do too :)

Ok, I think the fund raising has hit a little bit of a plateau. Anyone have any ideas on kicking it in gear? I am a little disappointed that more G|A'ers have not donated.

Maybe G|A can help - offer a free shirt to whoever donates to hit the 3/4 mark, or something like that? Though, I'm not sure if the admins would be up for that, since they've never offered such support for other fundraising threads.

Honestly, I rarely donate to any of the fundraisers that get posted here. The online nature of it makes it feel very dis-connected when it comes to donations. It's easy to ignore a link requesting money, harder to ignore and deny the phone call or face-to-face request. It was Chrissy's story that appealed to me more then anything, because that made it more personal. So maybe it needs another personal plea? Maybe some pics, or another aspect of the story or something?

Do you have a team already?

I haven't decided 100% if I'm up for the walk. I have child-care issues for the training and the actual 3-Day...I think that scares me more than the physical walk AND the fundraising.

I have a girlfriend from junior high who's sister is a Survivor. They are also contemplating doing the 3-Day here in San Diego (they're up in SF) - so we're all trying to get psyched up and commit!

We'll see - I have about a month and a half to decide!

chrissy
10-16-2007, 08:55 AM
I hear you for the child care issues! With Donnie not coming home until after the walk, I was scared the past couple weeks that I would be ready for the walk and not have anyone to watch the kids. But I found someone yesterday who is willing to watch them for me Thursday through Monday! I mean, I have a 13, 10 and a 3 yr old. She and her husband have a 3 month old baby boy (whom I am watching this week for her :) ) My older ones can most definately keep the little ones busy for her. They shouldn't be too much trouble. Patrick (3 yr old) is my only concern. With Daddy gone, mommy not there to tuck him in, he might get moody. Hopefully Audrey and Mikey will be enough for him to be comfy and happy.

I cannot believe I am packed and ready to go! I am... excited. Patrick is not. He doesn't want me to go - last time one of his parents left, they didn't come back LOL. But he will be fine. They will keep him busy and by the time he gets hopeless, I will be back!

I will take pictures - they won't be as good as zippy's but they will be pictures :) I can't say it enough, you guys are the best group of people I have ever not met :p !

If ever any of you are in LV, let me know! I owe everyone a drink!

I'm going to cheer Chrissy on tomorrow - with a big "GO CHRISSY" sign!

Chrissy is one of the reasons that I'm walking in the 2008 3-Day.......everyone that walks the 60 miles is an inspiration to me.

Go, Chrissy, Go!

I just talked to Chrissy a few minutes ago. She was just about to sit down and eat dinner and take a shower. She wanted me to thank everyone again very much and tell faither thanks and she will add your name to her shirt before tomorrow. :)

Here are her stats for the first day of the walk:

The opening ceremony was 7am this morning. So she started walking around 7:30.

She finished at 4:39pm.

She walked 53,125 steps and walked the full 21.8 miles.

:D

Yeah, Chrissy! I'm still planning on going down tomorrow a.m. to cheer her on - I just finished making a sign so she can see me!

Go, Chrissy, Go!

I found out that my company will meet my donation, but they do it on a quarterly basis. It will go to the main charity, not to Chrissy directly, but it will be donated. I didn't know that my company matched donations, but it's nice to know that they do.

I did go down to the walk this morning with my "Go Chrissy" sign...stood out on the path for more than 2 hours and met THREE Chrissy's!

But not "our" Chrissy - I did meet one of her teammates so she'll at least know I tried :)

Who knew there were soooooo many people that walked the 3-Day? I learned today that there were about 4000 people walking (and I saw about 3300 of them - and still no Chrissy)

Ah, well, it was still fun! Go Chrissy!!!

Hehehehehe So I talked to Chrissy tonight. She was really disappointed that she missed you OKODM!

She walked 9 miles today. She was still REALLY REALLY sore from yesterday. (She's sorry Houdini. ;) )

She is hoping to walk all 14 miles tomorrow. :)

I talked to Chrissy tonight! She finished the whole day, at something like just over 16 miles! Incredible, isn't it??

I'm sure she'll try and get on tomorrow night if she can, but if not then, she'll be on the next day. :)

She said thanks to everyone for their support!

So Chrissy sent out thank you cards... and last night I had to explain to my wife why I was "sending money to random women in Las Vegas". :)

You are welcome, Chrissy!

Although I doubt that many of those women are provided their clients' home addresses and send them thank you cards. ;)

Sorry about that. :hihi:

I have more to send out. So if you haven't gotten one yet, it's on the way. I FINALLY got them all finished last week and when I went to mail them, the line was out the door, I didn't wait around (local PO doesn't have a machine for stamps that takes a CC/DC). So, I went home and ordered them online :)
