A local radio station was holding a scavenger hunt for a chance to win $50,000 and a bunch of us decided to try to win. We had to get 20 items in order to qualify for a draw to win.
When I heard the first item was to gather over a thousand signatures of support, I immediately thought this was going to be hopeless (I don't know 1,000 people very well, and I'm not the greatest at approaching strangers to ask for signatures). Even with the help of friends who decided to work as a team for this, it was tough.
Some of the other items included a failing report card from grade 1-6 from the 70s or 80s, an OJ Simpson NFL card, and a song list of tunes played at the top of each hour during a workday.
First, the crappy part -- although we managed to get the signatures in the end, an eBay seller didn't live up to their end of the bargain and didn't ship the OJ Simpson card in time (despite a guarantee that it would be shipped overnight before we purchased it). This was purchased last Thursday, and we needed it by Wednesday of this week (yesterday). Furthermore, one of the songs I was given in the song list was wrong (I forgot to turn on the radio to catch what the song was). :( So, no I didn't qualify to win $50,000.
The GOOD part of it was that I don't regret trying out for the event. Although we didn't qualify, it did prove that anything is possible, and our team felt good about the effort we did put into it. Organizing a signature drive was not easy, but I certainly have proof that it can be done. :)
