A home-schooled teenager who amassed a cache of weapons, including a hand grenade, and tried to recruit another boy for a possible school attack in Pennsylvania was charged with solicitation to commit terror, authorities said Thursday.

The 14-year-old, who authorities said had felt bullied, was taken into custody after police raided his home in the Philadelphia suburbs on Wednesday evening. He had talked about mounting an attack on Plymouth Whitemarsh High School similar to the 1999 .

It's really unfortunate. It was said in the news today that some of his classmates reported him to the principal previous to the situation, but I don't think it was handled well if at all--especially seeing as what he resulted in doing.

Aren't hand grenades covered by the Second Ammendment Right to Bear Arms? I think his civil rights are being violated. His talk (and not action) about mounting an attack is covered by Freedom of Speech. Unless he is a terrorist. Then we can do whatever we want with him. Nice of Mom to buy him a 9mm "assault rifle".

Honestly, I don't know what to make of this one. The kid had a couple of 22mm pistols, and a bunch of bb guns (about THIRTY of them?) and then there is the 9mm semi- automatic rifle with laser scope that Mom got him. She is being charged with getting that one. http://my.earthlink.net/article/top?guid=20071012/470ef140_3ca6_1552620071012-467793118
But he had no ammo. Lots of kids in PA (where I am originally from) have 22mm guns. I guess Dad tried to buy him a gun once but was turned down for his felony conviction on a DUI homicide.

Given the history of Colombine, there is zero tolerance in such situations. The family and kid seem to have some issues to deal with.

I hate to be s stickler for details, but this error shows up in so many media sources nowdays, kinda like a "Glock service revolver." It's .22 cal, not 22mm. Big difference. 22mm would be a veritable cannon. .22 cal is about 22/100 of an inch. .50 cal is 1/2 inch, etc.

I was thinking the same thing.

But then, "We have to do something"

Thank you for the correction. My mistake.

Hey, np. Like I said, it wasn't meant as an attack. It's just something people post out of habit that can be very misleading. :)

Also, I don't think most of those airguns are BB guns. By the descriptions, they are most likely airsoft. I don't know of too many manufacturers that make bb weapons in the AK and AR variety, but plenty of companies make VERY realistic handguns, rifles, shotguns, etc., that shoot slightly larger lightweight plastic rounds. They are fun, and cool for practicing drawing and firing and accuracy indoors, and are perfectly safe as long as you are wearing eye protection. A buddy shot me in the back (after proper experimentation) with a very powerful Glock18 reproduction semi-auto, and it felt like someone popped a rubber band on me. I didn't let anyone shoot at my back with it set to full-auto though (the G18 is actually a real weapon, about the size of the guns you usually see police carrying, except it shoots several rounds/second. True full auto. Likely fun as hell to shoot...gotta try one out someday. :) )

Can't kids just watch TV like good ol' times?

BB guns are still not completely harmless. My sister has a pellet in her leg from being shot at camp when she was younger.

But, like I said, I doubt they are real BB guns by the description. They are more likely airsoft, which cannot usually break skin. Picture an ultra-lightweight round plastic ball about .25 inch.

With a collection of over thirty weapons and making his own hand grenades filled with BBs, he probably has some of both.

What makes you think that? :hmm:

I said what makes me think that. I think he probably has at least some guns (out of the over thirty confiscated by police) that shoot bbs instead of yellow pellets first just based on numbers- having that many and a variety of guns. Secondly, the article mentions some home made hand grenades that contained BBs. That means that he had BBs and most likely a BB gun to shoot them with. That is why I think he probably had guns that shoot both. I am going by some of your expert opinons that some of them will shoot yellow pellets since I am not personally familiar with these types of weapons.
